So finally a chance to talk about a win! i think all of Cowboy's Nation let out a sigh of relief in between all the cheering today.
so i'm gonna start this off with things that bothered me about today.
i was so excited with the way we played overall that i probably missed some bad things, but the one that was still there was the penalties.
it's getting better, but it still had a chance to bite us. luckily we played so well that they didn't.
on that same note...i'm gonna put the refs in the bad b/c they missed some obvious calls (i'm not counting the debacle on that kickoff, that was probably my 2nd favorite thing about the game besides the win)
that long bomb to Dez where he ended up out of bounds (great catch by the way)...how was there no flag on that? his legs were taken out before the ball got there...i can't believe that ref missed it.
secondly that one play where Romo got hit by Mario, to me that was close enough to his head to warrant a call, or at least you'd think so with what sticklers they normally are about touching the QB
ok enough of the bad, this was a win after all, lets go with the good observations:
Romo was very good today, and much better w/ accuracy than he had been in the first 2 games. back to his old form today
running game did much better, but still not great. anyone else annoyed when you see Marion break runs outside so much now instead of pushing it inside?
our receivers overall played very well today. Roy obviously had the big plays. Miles had an off day by the standards he's set, but that catch inside the 10 was a huge play.
Dez continues to show he will be a stud. even had a Sam Hurd sighting, and that was a HUGE play as it got us a key first down.
solid game by the tight ends in all phases. gotta say i held my breath when i saw Marty B limping off early on. his blocking has become key for us.
speaking of blocking, wow what a job by the o-line today!
except for the play when Mario came in free we did not hear his name once (credit Free and Columbo). overall Romo really never got pressured, so great job by the line.
d-line played solid for the most part. i tend to think in a 3-4 if you don't hear their names they're probably doing what they need to do. only knocks i have is they got pushed off on some of those running plays, and the Igor offsides which i could see on TV the whole like 10 seconds before the snap.
linebackers did good and bad. i think Ware and Spencer played well. Ware was a beast today, and Spencer did his usual good stuff against the run, and he caused the fumble. our MLBs did ok, but that position scares me. how bad are our backups that our starters are playing 98% of the snaps there? i really hope Lee comes back next game and can spell Brooking a little bit.
i think our DBs were very impressive today. especially considering the offense we were going up against. Newman was his usual solid self. Jenkins played great with the injury, nice pick! Scandrick got beat 1 on 1 a few times, but didn't give up anything huge.
Sensabaugh was just hammering everything today, he was like a man possessed. and he made one of the biggest plays of the game bringing Daniels down at the 1.
even Church got involved on the goal line stand.
lastly our special teams:
kick coverage was way better today.
McBriar didn't have many punts today finally, but the ones he had were boomed.
and of course, can't forget Buehler, great job by him on those two FGs. i was really worried when they didn't give him a shot on the first drive, but he came up big today.
overall a very solid performance by the team as a whole. obviously still things to fix, but we took a team who had a lot of momentum and who's city was pumping it up as a playoff game, and we took them out to the woodshed.
now we have the bye week to get some guys healthier, and hopefully we can carry our newly found momentum into the game against the Titans in two weeks.
