I know there are some Suns fans on here;

Suns did a one for one deal with the Raptors and acquired Turkoglu for Barbosa.

They also did a sign and trade deal with the Hawks for Josh Childress. IMO, those are pretty good moves for the Suns. Childress can play some good defense and Turkoglu seems like a great fit for the Suns offense. Good moves.

Turkoglu is a good pickup for the Suns. Should help a lot without Stoudamire. Going to be impossible to replace the big man, though.

Turkoglu presents matchup problems for teams with smaller rosters or smaller forwards. He's got the size of a PF but can actually play point guard in a sort of "point forward" role. Good moves for the Suns. Turkoglu will especially benefit from playing with Steve Nash.

I've never been a huge Turkoglu fan personally, I don't think he's as good as advertised.

He also pretty much ran himself out of Toronto, which is amusing since the only reason he went there to begin with was for the money.

There are a lot of great athletes in the NBA, but there aren't a lot of great shooters anymore.

Turkoglu is one. Nice pickup by the Suns.

Turk handles the ball and sees the floor well, doesn't shy away from a big shot and is very underrated at taking the ball to the basket (or drawing fouls while doing so).

I think a big reason that the Magic couldn't make it back to the Finals this past season was because they replaced Turk with Vince Carter. It caused the Magic to look at Carter for big buckets down the stretch (fail) and Jameer to focus less on scoring and more on setting up the offense (mixed, but mostly fail against Boston).

It will be interesting to see how they plan on fitting Turk into the Phoenix offense, since Steve Nash obviously runs that show.

IDK why people think that the Suns are cheap! They have been over the cap the past few seasons and Sarver has always put the $$$ out there for players. Now it hasn't always been well spent but they're willing to pay players who they feel fits into their scheme.

As a Suns' fan, I like the Childress p/u because he adds some defensive prowess to the SG/SF position and has a decent mid-range game (he needs to improve his 3pt shot although having a career 36% isn't bad). Hedo...I think his offensive game will mesh with the Suns' style but he doesn't help on the glass or on the defensive end if PHX plays him at the 4 spot...which is their initial plan. Hopefully one of our young bucks (Lawal, Clark, or Collins) can step their game up and provide some defense/rebounding to the PF spot and earn some quality minutes.

So Channing Frye is going to play 40 minutes at center every night? I know they don't rebound a lot but they might want to consider it. If they can get a semi-legitimate center out there I can see them contending but they don't have anybody capable of getting close to 10 rebounds a game...

No Robin Lopez is the starting C & he's very capable of pulling down 10+ boards/gm...Frye comes off the bench and will prob play some PF if Lopez is on the floor with him...

I am a Suns fan as well and I am very pleased with both acquisitions. However, this team is clearly cut out to win 50 games in the regular season and maybe win a series to two in the playoffs and lose again to the Lakers. This current team is not good enough to beat LA, just not enough good defenders/rebounders to bang with LA's big 3. With that being said, if the Suns can go out and acquire a real PF, that would instantly make them contenders..

I agree! I'd love for them to get Al Jefferson or Udonis Haslem but I think they're going to settle on someone cheap like Kurt Thomas to come in and do the dirty work for about 20mins/gm.

Sure you do, Laker fan...;) I liked his game but being a tweener & a liability defensively at the G position made him expendable with Dragic picking up his game & the acquisition of Childress as a backup SG/SF.

The sold a ton of draft picks.
Including ones that led to Rondo and Rudy Fernandez.

They also traded Kurt Thomas and two 1st rounders to the Thunder for nothing. I forget what those picks ended up being. I think maybe Thabo Sefolosha(via trade) and Serge Ibaka

That was because Mike Dantoni refused to play rooks so he basically traded (sold) them all off when he was running the show! I cringe sometimes when I think of the players we could of had if we'd kept those picks (add Deng to your list, too). Sefolosha was actually a player the Suns wanted but he was drafted by Philly b4 they could get him (that was the year they sent Rondo to BOS for $$$).

Turkoglu isn't a great shooter, not by any stretch.

Career 38% from behind the arc is pretty good; but its not great.
Career 43% from the field is not good.

He's a pretty good 3 point shooter, but has pretty poor efficiency overall in terms of shooting.

I don't get this from PHX's standpoint.

Turkoglu is due $54M/4 years. That's horrendous given Turkoglu's production and that he is a 31 year old player on the decline.

I understand PHX not wanting to guarantee Stoudamire's entire contract. That made sense. I understand them re-signing Frye to a somewhat livable deal. That made sense. I even understand them taking a flyer on Hakim Warrick (decent offense; anemic defense)...

But this move.... bleh.

I expect Turkoglu to recover somewhat next year due to playing alongside Nash. But he's still going to be a player on the decline, due an insane amount of money for his production, and has never really been all that efficient of a player.

I couldn't believe BC gave Turkoglu that contract to begin with. And I cannot believe he was able to unload it, either. Hats off to BC for rectifying that mistake.

I'm not thrilled w/ him coming to PHX either, but I think he'll see kind of a resurgence playing alongside Nash and I expect him to have a much better season than his last. My concern is their plan to play him at the 4, where he can be abused by some of the bruising PFs in the league.

Turks remaining deal is like 4 years 44 mil or something..he waived half of his guaranteed money in the final year...still a bad contract but not as bad..and if he can get back to the form he had 2 years ago, which I absolutely believe he will then it wont be bad at all..he will thrive in Phoenix, no doubt..

with that being said, more importantly, the Suns need to deal JRich and get a real PF. Maybe a Scola or a West or even Horford or Josh Smith...Someone, anyone that can play the 4.
