Just a quick heads up for everyone...
I just received a call from a "private" number (first red flag). The lady on the other end had an accent which sounded to be English, but couldn't tell as there was a ton of ambient noise.
She explained that I was one of the 1,500 citizens which was chosen to receive a free $10,000 government grant as my criminal record is clear and my tax history has not blemishes.
So I continued to see how far it went before I was asked for account numbers or where I needed to send a check to. I asked the following questions:
- For which branch of government do you work? the "grant" division
- At what address is your office located? 200 Independence Ave., Wash DC 20201. I looked this up. It is actually the Office of Budget.
- I asked her phone number. She said we cannot give those out as this is a secure line.
- I asked if she could confirm my address. No answer...then I got the "If you do not want to receive the $10,000 grant, let me know. We do not scam anyone."
- I said thanks and hung up.
Sorry if I drug that out a tad, but wanted to let you know in the happenstance you receive the same call.
