'Physical, violent' mantra for O-line, running backs taking center stage for Cowboys

This is why fans should not be GMs, I know this is the Internet we get to all have an opinion, but that would be a major overcorrection LOL

you can't do that as a team you gotta figure out right now what's on your team and who you're keeping we've got hunter Vaughn and possibly bringing back Rico the new coaching staff must evaluate tape and figure out if these guys are worth keeping and how much they're worth and how they fit into the new scheme.

So what they need to do is yes we need one stud starting running back in the draft, that's a given..

everything else is up in the air because they need to figure out how they feel about what's here and about how what direction they're going because I don't believe in Mike McCarthy especially our offensive line coach.. I don't think they were doing our tight ends and our running backs any favors hell not really our receivers either.. We both know that it seemed like Mike McCarthy took a half a season to figure out how he wanted to do things on offense didn't use Rico correctly he never even used Tony Pollard correctly in my opinion Tony pollard's last season he was used wrong that should have been Rico in that position with Tony doing what Tony's always done being a energy back with the speed change of pace literally they were used wrong I don't like the way they used Rico early on again they didn't start using him until way late in the season and figured out how to put the offensive line together and put a decent run game out there.. Given the fact we also know Turpin didn't seem to get enough touches on offense as far as the wide receiver routes this makes me know that maybe BS has an idea of maybe he likes maybe he has a better plan for hunter maybe hunter was also underutilized for short yardage he could be our big back and then back to Rico if he costs too much sure you got to get rid of him he's not special he doesn't have enough breakaway speed he doesn't even look great at the goal line in short yardage all the time and that could've been the scheme again they're going to have to reevaluate all this... But some pieces on this team could fit the future vision and maybe not and you're right they have to start from scratch..

so,

I believe it all going to fall into place when we figure out what exactly our identity is on offense, but you can't now go from not having much of a run game to over focusing on the run game we do need a strong run game but when you overcorrect like a year too late you can't go too far that direction because you still need to focus on the whole offense, balance, you know the old saying they have to complement each other...

everything needs to flow so yeah; we can't go that far we need to rebuild the team and think too much about the run game it all needs to blend together.

Wow this league has a way to overcorrect, and change in a heartbeat and last year it seemed to rejuvenate the run game, I mean Saquon Barkley alone, the fact that they won the Super bowl and even though he wasn't great in the Super bowl he was a huge factor in the eagles getting to the Super bowl and then happened to focus on him opens up the pass game..

so this is about balance and complimentary football, I don't think passing game is still the dominant strength, depends on what team you put together.

you can do it with one great wide receiver 1 great running back a really good tight end but the scheme the blocking the play calling the designs those are all what's important, but if you end up with a room full of great running backs sure you would make your identity to run game and then play action off of it.... but you wouldn't have your strength being the passing game, but other teams end up having three really good receivers they don't have much of a run game they go the other direction.

The most important part of this is finding out your identity what the strength of your team is going into training camp and then you create the offense that best suits your strengths it doesn't have anything to do with trends in the NFL you can make anything work if you have the players to do it and the coaches that have the vision and the way to implement it and that's the hope we're holding out on is this new coaching staff helps create an identity and then you can build off of it...

That all boils down to first downs and Red Zone. Unless penalties are not called, professional football is built for the excitement of the passing game.

The Dallas coaches have reintroduced tough football and nose to nose.

That depends on your perception are we looking for the greatest show on turf we seen this stuff back in the day air coryell and the greatest show on turf air McNair literally they threw the ball in the middle of a run first run oriented league and yes they made it exciting and then we saw the running gun running shoot blah blah blah this is all the same the NFL team to team changes..

You must build your team to your strengths not trends and I get what you're saying are you trying to tell me when Emmitt Smith was dominating the league our offensive line our defensive line we were playing big ball run football 1st that it wasn't exciting when the play action hit I mean we had dudes like Michael Irvin running down the field making plays and that was definitely exciting but it was balanced occasionally we had the big play by either the tight end or Alvin Harper couple of those big plays down the middle you can do that and have exciting throws off of a strong run game play action first comes off the run game..

If you're trying to imply we need 3 great receiving targets and we got to be throwing the football 50 * a game that's not going to work that may work for some teams but that is not how the eagles just won a Super Bowl sure they had to throw the ball some they have a running quarterback they had Saquon Barkley and I believe the fans would love our running backs to be hitting those 30,40, and 50 yard runs and some of them all the way to the end zone..

I realize the league trend at one point went super Pass happy, but all of a sudden people started respecting the run game the last couple of years, again Derek Henry and saquon Barkley and Christian McCaffrey and teams are going out and getting those guys you can still have exciting football if you build it correctly so again you figure out what your strengths are and you don't overcorrect... There's gonna be some give and take and again you don't know how this year's gonna play out but that's why Dan Quinn's defenses have a hard time stopping runs and that happens around the league because it was built for the pass game and so team saw that there were teams out there that were built to stop the past so they went back to the run..

you try to build around it so whatever that ends up being we'll see but knowing what we know about BS he comes from more of the run first and then play action pass off of it therefore they need to start with the run game without ignoring the pass game..

Horrible take. For a team that has 10 draft picks and honestly is in decent position to trade down in an early round I wouldnt be shocked at all if @rambo2 is right and we end up taking two RBs on draft day. They could easily draft a potential 3 down back round 1 or 2 and follow that up with a depth piece later on in round 5 or so.

Vaughn/Leupke are both probably usable pieces, we have saw flashes from Leupke especially, but neither should be reasons to not upgrade the RB position or avoid the position in the draft, especially with Leupke headed for FA next offseason. Both players are fringe roster guys who could use competition this camp. Honestly if Schottenheimer doesnt want to use a roster spot on a FB Leupke probably doesnt have a chance of making the roster at all Hes not good enough to be a HB only.

Pointing out that a strong run game has credible value is not some revolutionary way of thinking, its just basic football 101. Many are not afraid to throw insults at that poster because he talks down to others all the time, and has a massive superiority complex. I'm probably walking a fine line with the forum rules so I wont go on much longer, but the guy tends to be a bit of a bully then hits ignore on everyone that points out when he is wrong.

I saw Earl Campbell play...he was a stud? Helped him bbq some of his sausage for a fund raiser, years later...that type of running is fun to watch, but those guys pay the price.

He's always had that mentality, but a tough loss in the 2023 College Football Playoff to Washington was a big motivating factor for Collins to approach the 2024 season differently in terms of his preparation.

"After we lost to Washington, I for sure took offseason differently, I had a chip on my shoulder…" Collins said. "You just train different, you don't want to feel that, I don't like losing."

He's approached the combine the same way, and is hoping to impress teams with his athletic ability and locker room presence.
