Pic: Daryl Johnston and Dan Patrick reenact Leon Lett Thanksgiving Day blunder

I was at that game and while people around me where cheering the blocked kick I was hollering no Lett as I saw him running towards the ball. Many could not figure out why I was hollering no. I swear if I had a rifle I would have picked him off before he could reach the ball. :laugh2:

I don't know. Kid could have been something real special but getting high seemed to be more important to him.

According to Wiki, he went back to school and got his degree and he's a DL coach at Louisiana-Monroe.

Leon had issues. BTW he is coaching at some college in Louisiana.

Good to hear that.

Well, I forgive Leon for that, It was the last game we lost that season!;)

I love Leon Lett.

Who was the special teams coach at that time?
I always blamed him too.

Maybe it was all Leon's fault, but it seems like a simple thing to teach to anyone, ... "if we block a kick, get away from it".

Like I said, we all think Leon should have known this, but maybe it wasn't taught thoroughly enough.

Jimmy said it was his and the ST teams coach fault, because Leon wasn't normally on that unit, they just stuck him out there to try and block it.

I loved Leon. He went to school one hour up the road from here. Hell of an athlete.

Moose, never thought you'd disrespect a former colleague that way.
Even Jimma brushed away questions about that play because as Jimma said the kid was shy and wilted when questioned by the media. Jimma had a heart for Leon. I guess Moose didn't feel the same way.

I knew it before he touched the ball all other players on the field seemed to know it as well except for Lett.

Who blocked the kick?

I was doing the same thing. When that kick was blocked I saw Lett in the corner of my eye chugging down the field at full speed... I knew this was not going to end up good and I was yelling at him as loudly as I could...

Dooms... you remember the wind that day? It would nearly knock you over when you would go to the concourse. VERY VERY cold day with the windchill...

On a good note... the beer was ice cold and the lines to buy it were short!

I remember having breakfast at the motel across the freeway from the stadium and seeing sleet coming down hard and the wind blowing. I knew we were in for a sloppy game. It was not the coldest game I have gone to at Texas Stadium, the playoff game vs the Rams was brutal, the pipes froze at the stadium causing them to burst which turn the concourse into an ice rink.

Yeah, I wish people would just quit bringing it up. Isn't it embarrassing enough for this shy man as it is? Unfortunately, his mistakes will probably haunt all his life.

At least people have heard of him, which is more than most people making fun of him.
