Autograph hounds brave drizzly day at Texas Stadium

Tim MacMahon E-mail News tips

Unless you're reading this on your BlackBerry while standing in line, don't expect to be one of the first 1,000 fans at tonight's Texas Stadium shindig.

The first 1,000 folks in the gates will get access to a bunch of big-name ex-Cowboys signing autographs, including Hall of Famers Bob Lilly, Tony Dorsett, Rayfield Wright, Mel Renfro and Randy White. Word is that they were a bunch of people already in line at 9 a.m, seven and a half hours before the gates will open.

Quick self-promotion: We will live blog the practice, which begins at 7 p.m.

The scene from Texas Stadium

We've had a little bit of rain, but there seems to be plenty of traffic coming into the old stadium. I'm guessing a crowd of 15,000 will be on hand and I may be way off.

The stadium workers are sweeping the field right now but you can still make out the lines of a lacrosse field from the press box. In one of the end zones are a number of tables for former players to sign autographs, including Rayfield Wright, Bob Lilly, Tony Dorsett and Cliff Harris.

I'll bet that the total crowd exceeds 35,000 tonight.

Two of the local news stations just showed shots from TS. I'd like to qualify the above statement.

35k at least!

;)

Edit: From my exclusive, on-scene, BIL reporter, via mobile-phone technology:

"15,000, tops!

Rain, Rain, Rain

The rain here at Texas Stadium should force the Cowboys to have a light practice. It's hard for the team to get out of this because of the estimated 12,000 people here.

But the Texas Stadium crew should have kept the tarp on the field at least until 6 p.m. They took the tarp off around 4:45 p.m. when it wasn't raining, but did somebody check with weather.com before taking off the tarp.

It's a wet field, the sidelines looked soaked. But the fans are here so we're going to have practice.

Cowboys shouldn't practice in this

Oh, boy. Jerry Jones is in quite a pickle now.

It's pouring down rain at Texas Stadium, and there are thousands of fans here. If the Cowboys were practicing at Valley Ranch, they'd be going inside to the indoor practice facility. But as we all know, there's a giant hole in the roof at Texas Stadium.

If somebody comes out and gets hurt, there's no telling how much grief Jerry and Wade Phillips will take. The sidelines are flooded right now. You think they're trying to figure a way out of this right about now?

Sun peeking through the hole

We have some sun peeking through the hole in the roof at Texas Stadium as the downpour has stopped. The fans are getting fired up with a little heavy metal music and free T-shirts. We'll see what the Cowboys will be able to do on the field. Going to be difficult to hold a full-speed workout on this field.
All the fans are sitting on the east side of the stadium. The lower bowl is pretty full and with some sitting in one end zone.

No it doesn't but it looks a little hazy. It also doesn't look like there are 35,000 people there either.
