Pic of McFadden run against Vikings

For him to have a chance to stay healthy the Cowboys can't over use him that's how he was able to stay healthy last season in Oakland. If the Cowboys go out there and try to pound him for 20+ carries a game he's not going to last.

I don't know that to be true. It's likely as with any back, the more you run them the more likely they will be hurt. But to automatically claim that if we run him 20 or more times a game, he won't last seems wrong. After all, we had the same problem going into last year, didn't we. An oft injured back that couldn't be relied on to be a work horse. A back that had not played a full season in his career and was injured in college as well. Yet, he played all 16 games and rushed for 1800 yards and had over 400 touches last year. I do not want to use McFadden that much, not saying that at all. I think 10-12 touches a game is about what I want him to get. But If that other back can do it, who says McFadden couldn't do it if given the chance.

You may be right I think he should be able to handle an avg of 15 a game.

We'll just have to see how many carries he can handle before an injury pops up. If he starts running the ball well the tendency will be to ride him for awhile but if either of his hamstrings start flaring up it could linger and really effect his play to where he has to be sat down. This is what happened with the Raiders when he started having hamstring issues. He's had problems with both hammy's this summer so we're going to have to hold our breath with him.

SO we can now conclude the offensive line makes the running back, not the other way round..

it takes both, looking at a still does not mean jack. Backs who know how to run the ball allow blocks to happen they don't run up the back of the OL before the block is set. I agree it takes an OL it also takes a RB to produce a good rushing team. Minn OL is good they are great when AP is running the ball. Dallas OL was one of the best yet other RB failed whereas Emmitt was very successful.

I agree an injury could happen when? who knows. Meantime he is here I would play him and given him the carries they feel he can handle. Same with Lee, I would not limit him in terms of plays he is a ball player I expect him to go out play hard and hope he can avoid any injury. That is all you can do

I've read a number of references to McFadden's lack of success vs the Niners as an indictment of his inability to break tackles or run well (not necessarily in this thread).

Remember, the Niners knew, with 4/5 of our starting OL out, that Romo would hand off two times and make a short pass.

They were playing run all the way. Naturally, there would be no holes. I thought Randle ran better that game, but there was an actual possibility that Weeden would throw the ball.

Again, the key for DMac is health. He will be a capable replacement for Murray....perhaps even more dynamic, if he stays healthy.

IIRC, it was Beasley's guy that make the tackle after a gain of ?12?. If Beasley had been able to hold his man just a second or two more, McFadden would have been passed them but still VERY impressive by all the Cowboys involved in the play.

McFadden has been healthy and not productive.

This is why preseason does not provide any measurements of how a team will come into the regular season.

They had a good segment about our RB's today on talkin Cowboys around the 10 minute mark.

Basically saying the OL wasn't in the groove when Randle was in the game. Clear to anyone really that doesn't have a hate for our RB situation.

no, the other S came slamming in and stuffed him

lol But, you are asking a 110 lb kid to block a 260 lb? He at least tried...
