Pickens appears to be a poor risk

And I firmly believe that the team will have a group of people working with him to maximize his abilities while trying to minimize his emotional outbursts.

Dak and Lamb as current players, and former players like Michael Irvin as well.

I think they have a plan.
This^^^^^^^

If he plays lights out someone is giving him a monster contact so the comp pick would be a 3 or 4th rounder
so he plays lights out. we fizzle out of playoffs as usual (at best). and we just traded a mid 3rd round pick for a 4th round pick...and you are happy!?

that's who jerry is selling to. folks like you.

I do think he upgrades the WR room

Reported issues Courtesy of Marcus Mosher LOC

- several teams took him off their board pre draft

2023
- fined $200k for conduct detrimental
- called out for not blocking on running play said he didn't want to get hurt
- called out OC for not getting him more touches
- benched for several games for lack of effort
- fined for eye paint with profanity
- final game 2 drops 3 unsportsmanlike penalties

2024
- $90k fines same stuff
- late for Christmas day game
- after final game said he didn't think the offense would get better

The talent is undeniable but Tomlin himself was the one who initiated the trade based on what I read. That speaks volumes. Doesnt really matter though. This team still has too many issues to win more than 7 to 9 games.

he was just the best player on a bad offense.

Now he might be joining a team that positionwise he might be like #5 best on offense.

Not only are we giving up a 3rd and a 5th next year but we basically are signing him for only one season. On a team that isn’t one player away.

His rookie deal runs out and why Steelers traded him as he seems unwilling to negotiate. On top of that he’s a head case. His emotions are difficult to keep in check.

He was fined for using an expletive on his eye black against the Cowboys. He also drew wide spread criticism in 2023 for what could generously be described as the attentive downfield blocking for his teammates.

Considering his volatility, the Steelers didn’t seem interested in signing Pickens to a contract extension running out of patience for the talented but mercurial former 2nd round pick. A 3rd and 5th looks like they found an anxious taker.
That's why I graded it a "B-".
If not for being so troubled I would've said "B+". If not for being in the last year of his deal, "A+". But if not for those issues we wouldn't have got him for less than a 1st round pick, I'm guessing.

you just made it worse. we had a mid 3rd round pick and if in the best case scenario end up with top of the 4th round pick (essentially the best comp pick being called a 3rd is actually top of 4th since we pick after the 32nd pick of the 3rd round).

so one year deal. not a championship team. trade a pick for a lower pick and get nothing....awsome team building approach!!!!!
Your post is hard to argue against unless Jerry is truly all in...which I don't think he is, reinforcing your post.

But, I think you could make the argument of moving from mid 3rd to top of the 4th for a tried and true producer might be worth it. Especially for Jerry who is always in the business of selling hope. And, after last year...this move might be a cheap way of bringing hope to the masses.

Again, Jerry has his own plan. Your post is talking about if teams are truly trying to win and not be make money focused. Jerry is money focused.

But yeah, hard to argue what your saying. Not championship team, moved back for possibly nothing in return.
