Pickens is a nice problem

The real problem with Pickens is that if you dont commit and he walks, you have nothing to show for a 3rd round pick. Add to that you are back to square one at WR. Worse yet, Tolbert is also a free agent after the season

To be a good trade, Pickens needs to be extended. Even if he walks and you get a 3rd round comp pick, its practically a 4th rounder and could be outside the top 100. You also dont get it until 2027
We could tag him without extending him. The tag will possibly be lower than what he will be requesting. The projected tag is $28 million, while the top No. 2 receivers (Tee Higgins, Jaylen Waddle) are making $28 million per year. Devonta Smith is making $25 million, but he got his deal in 2024. This year, the price for a high-end No. 2 already has gone up. Next year, it will probably be $30 million.
