Pickens is worth the gamble!

-Just 24, with zero injury concerns
-He is comp eligible, meaning worst case, if he leaves in 2026, Cowboys would receive a pick back.
-Will be motivated, playing on a contract year.
-Excellent complement to Lamb, where teams will think twice about doubling Lamb on every pass
-He could easily step into the #1 WR role if Lamb ever went down with injury.
-Late Day 2 pick isn't a big cost, considering his age and production. There won't be a better receiver to draft in the 3rd rd.
-Dak/Lamb just signed big extensions, it will be up to them to keep Pickens in line.
-Jerry always does an extensive background check around the league about the player.
-He has never been an off the field problem with the law, is well liked, where he simply needs to grow up.

It's a great move. Some of these guys will cry no matter what the FO does. This place exists for them purely to vent. It sucks.

He is actually one of the best down the field threats as well. Had to find someone who takes away all that double coverage away from Lamb. If Pickens can consistently do that, it would open up our passing game.

Jury is out on his character, we will find out if he is just immature like Dez or more of a problem. Adding many leaders should help them handle such a player.
Do we have the talent and play designed to take advantage of it?

Yes...I mean QB talent...and no, not judging, just for the sake of discussion.

Will McClay has his signature all over this trade so it may work out for the Cowboys. Now if BS's coaching staff doesn't screw this up, we may see an improved offense.

Even if you try and line up all the highly improbable what IF question marks being answered in one season, this team would still fall miserably short of a trophy.

So if that's the risk to reward grading scale you're implying I think it's a losing proposition.

Now for the drama and entertainment value it's a home run.

But it sure doesn't seem to fit this so called culture change thing they've been preaching though.

Just saying.
Shotty coached him in college, so maybe he wanted him and thinks he can settle him down ?
I dont know what he has done to be called a malcontent lol.
But coming here may settle him down.

He's here now, so I'm going to root for him to do well and hopefully be a core player.

It’s refreshing for Jerry to realize a weakness and actually go out and do something about it instead of giving it lip service. Pickens is an excellent WR and fits well with Lamb who thrives in the slot. Pickens is a true wideout who can stretch the field. They needed a vet WR more than a draft pick who would take a year or 2 to become fully functional. Pickens is 24 and just entering his prime. Great job Jerry. Have to give him kudos after so many failures in acquiring the necessary talent.
This wasn't the bottom of the barrel type of move, either.

I like Pickens better than Brandon Cooks - although I think Cooks had some veteran savvy in him that might be missing from Pickens. I like Pickens length, and that he is a natural hands catcher, not a body catcher.

With a good QB, Pickens is a 1000 yard receiver. He may not be a 1700 yard receiver, but 900 - 1200 yards per year is more than the Cowboys were getting out of Brandon Cooks.
Think we got Cooks on his downturn of his career, he also did struggle to stay healthy. Dak has worked better with plus size receivers outside of the slot.

At best he has a good season and his contract demands are 25m plus which they won’t be able to pay.
Or he flames out (more likely) and they don’t want to pay him.
So it is takes out a valuable 3rd at a needed position when the 1st will almost certainly be a WR next year.
All for a player who barely moves the needle this season!
If he has a good season, his comp pick could be a 3rd rounder what we just paid. However, could see the team giving him an extension if he plays well. Disagree, he makes this team better this year, that what you want to accomplish.

Going to give you your flowers on when you fought me about Schotty having a run first offense. You kept pointing out that Seattle offense was pass first with Schotty until Pete Carroll got involved. The Cowboys are going to throw the football early and often. Get ready for early 2020 all over again. When Dak was setting passing records before he got hurt. There is a reason they drafted Booker at 12. His best attribute is actually his pass blocking. The running backs are all good pass catchers (Williams, Miles, and Blue). Are Joneses actually playing chess while the media is playing checkers.

It’s more likely to top out as a 5th best case and as we just found out with the 5th for Lawrence that 5th can disappear faster than a fart in the wind by just signing a spare part like Parris Campbell!

Still can. In today's game, you better have an elite offense or you have zero chance.
you need defense to win championships. KC made it to the superbowl with an offense that didn't score more than 30 points once in the season. two years ago when they beat SF, it was their defense holding SF until their offense got in gear. Philly, despite everything, won because of defense and two years ago when their defense fell apart, their season fell apart. offense sells tickets. defense wins championships

We now have a true end zone threat. Been lacking since Dez.
This is a great trade.
I don't think he will be as big of a problem as many say.

Yes, and it will be nice to be able to have the deep ball back. Especially if we can establish the run, we should be able to use the deep ball especially through the PA much more effectively. That's typically when Dak is at his best.

Reports I am seeing is Pickens was a coachable and well-liked player in Pittsburgh.

The issues were the on-field temper tantrums; which date back to his time at Georgia. He needs to mature in that area but otherwise this is not a bad person.
