Pickens on his contract expectations

Njigba is very good, but you taking him over Jefferson or Chase? Im not. It is nuts how contract after contract just keeps going up and up and up.
Get this, but as you mentioned ...........QB can impact WR play like crazy. ( Jefferson didn't look like a $35M WR last season ).

Dont care . IN the end, Michael is a grown *** man and is responsible for himself. His agent cant make him do anything. If Michael told his agent I am signing the deal they offered me... period. That would have been that. In the end, he always wanted the biggest contract. He needed it for his ego as much as anything.
geez man you've been harsh these past few days lol, I hear you though, I was just saying that because agents want to get their players the best deal they can, and micheal could say i'll take whatever

I guess in time we will find out what he means by "fair".

Here's a current list of the top NFL receiver pay:
  • Jaxon Smith-Njigba (Seattle Seahawks): $42.15 million per year ($168.6 million total value)
  • Ja'Marr Chase (Cincinnati Bengals): $40.25 million per year ($161 million total value)
  • Drake London (Atlanta Falcons): $35.26 million per year ($141 million total value)
  • Justin Jefferson (Minnesota Vikings): $35.0 million per year ($140 million total value)
  • CeeDee Lamb (Dallas Cowboys): $34.0 million per year ($136 million total value)
  • DK Metcalf (Pittsburgh Steelers): $32.9 million per year
  • Chris Olave (New Orleans Saints): $31.0 to $33.0 million per year ($132 million max value extension signed July 2026)

"Fair", in my opinion, and assuming he has another monster year, would be around what DK Metcalf is making. If he demands Ja'Marr level cash or higher - that's being ridiculously stupid and nowhere near "fair".
Just “what if”, what if he has a much better year than Drake London (for example). Even if Pickens’ season is not what it was last season he, and his agent, may declare what London signed for is fair. Even tagged he’s going to be paid $33 million. Pickens is likely to have a better season than one or more of the players you listed. He’s going to want a lot of money.

Also, keep in mind......he would elevate himself to #1WR level. Hell, I can think of 3-5 teams right now who probably sign him as their #1 guy. ( 49ers, Chiefs, Colts, Titans, Browns ). In other words, he should have a strong market.

Seriously, I just don't understand the negative comments this guy gets regarding his contract.

The way he handled last year being in his final rookie contract year after the trade and the way he's handled the franchise tag this whole off-season should be a blueprint for every franchise tagged player.

You can question where he ranks among the top receivers in the league but from the financial and personal side, the guy has just done his job, stayed out of the drama, bonded with other players and seems to care about this team.

Sure, that may change with the Cowboy offer next year, but the "wait until ..." argument has been repeated since he got here.

If (not when, but IF) that happens, my impression and view of him would change.

Until such time, I'm glad he's on the Cowboys.
Great take!

Michael lied through his teeth to look like the good guy. I never liked Michael. Always thought he was a me guy. And I can deal with me guys, as long as they are also very much team guys. Ware... always loved him. I wonder what the difference was.
the “michael” angle is weird. also did you ever think things changed when he realized jerry wasn’t keeping with the things he said either?
