Now that the highest paid quarterback is Mahomes it’s pretty well capped at his contract’s AAV. What quarterback can possibly say their resume indicates they should be paid more than he is. How many quarterbacks in the contemporary NFL have even been to multiple Super Bowls, let alone won multiple Super Bowls? Like…zero?

Pickens IMO is just as good as CeeDee if not better. Jerry has to find a way to keep them both. Know it's going to be hard but get it done-Jerry!!

In 2026 the Cowboy’s two highest paid receivers’ contracts have a combined AAV of $61 million. The two highest paid receivers’ contracts on the Commanders, Giants, and Eagles, all three teams put together, have a combined AAV of $88 million.

Is it really going up?
Most said it would be around mid $35 million a year. And seems that is what others are singing for. Except JSN.
GP getting $27 million this year. So they can find an additional $8 million come 2027. And the cap will go up.

It can easily be done.

I don’t know about “most”. Maybe you and me.

Until recently, only a few of us even wanted him to be extended.

“Most” people here at the zone have been doing three things

1) claiming he wants too much money
2) saying he should sign for less than market
3) saying the cowboys can’t afford two elite WRs

And that’s leaving out all of those who claim he’s a team chemistry weapon of mass destruction

• DK Metcalf (Pittsburgh Steelers): $32.9 million per year

"Fair", in my opinion, and assuming he has another monster year, would be around what DK Metcalf is making. If he demands Ja'Marr level cash or higher - that's being ridiculously stupid and nowhere near "fair".

And there is no way you can have two of these contracts on the same team and stay competitive at other positions.

Seriously, I just don't understand the negative comments this guy gets regarding his contract.

The way he handled last year being in his final rookie contract year after the trade and the way he's handled the franchise tag this whole off-season should be a blueprint for every franchise tagged player.

You can question where he ranks among the top receivers in the league but from the financial and personal side, the guy has just done his job, stayed out of the drama, bonded with other players and seems to care about this team.

Sure, that may change with the Cowboy offer next year, but the "wait until ..." argument has been repeated since he got here.

If (not when, but IF) that happens, my impression and view of him would change.

Until such time, I'm glad he's on the Cowboys.

I've said from the start we need to sign him to a 6 year deal, pushing most of the money down the road into years 4-6. At that point, it will be time to rebuild anyway.

Can’t be extended until after the season. There is no choice anymore, he’s playing on the tag this year
