Four years and several significant draft decisions later, Dallas is in line for its highest defensive ranking since 2003, and on the verge of joining Parcells coached team as a defense- first playoff qualifier. If you recall that top defense led Quincy Carter to the playoffs.

The Cowboys reversed the offense dominated formula of Romo’s era.

Lawrence the first pass rusher selected after releasing Ware, then Gregory s 2nd round risk finally emerging opposite Lawrence with another 2nd round risk in Smith.

Vander Esch as our 1st round pick this year has emerged as a star. Byron Jones another 1st round pick is thriving now at CB.Awuzie a 2nd round pick starts at the other side at CB.

Collins and Crawford 3rd round picks with a couple late round picks in Brown and Woods in secondary. The only high draft pick in question on defense is Taco.

The Cowboys have built the 5th ranked overall defense and 2nd in scoring.

There is no doubt that the Dallas Cowboys have improved their evaluation, drafting, and developing of players. It’s the biggest improvement in their entire organization.

Who gets credit for that ?

Awuzie has been playing much better lately. I think he has been playing well all season. But he took some heat on this site over the 1st 6 to 8 weeks.
The usual, he sucks, he is a bum, cut him, wasted draft pick. But these last 3 or 4 games he has looked so much better.

Jones and Awuzie lack the interceptions. But then again, they need to throw your way to have a chance to get one.
I think Chido will have a few picks, maybe even a pick 6 in the last 3 games. Would be great for the confidence heading to the playoffs. Not that he lacks any.

LOL...OMG Greggo....It’s Jerry, right? Are you now the “credit man”? Are you carrying a ledger now making note of every thing to assign credit?

Seriously, yes, JJ deserves credit for several things this year. But...nothing will erase the stink of the last two decades until they win a SB again.

Has to be Jerry. He gets blamed for everything that goes wrong.
Gives him credit for things that go right.

Or some will say they go right in spite of him. :muttley:
Jerry certainly deserves his credit especially for taking the risk which are rubber stamped by him but I believe there’s been a greater influence overall on Jerry and Stephen who at some point is going to receive his accolades.

Remember what Parcells said. “ you have to convince Jerry to go against his instincts”.

We’ve seen some good teams built in Jerry era. Who’s been the major influence in those?

He's looking for Garrett to get credit.

I don't understand why everything Parcells ever said is taken as gospel.

Is he the same guy who called a certain player "she", and would only refer to another one as "the player"?

That speaks to his level of respect for others, so I don't think it's a good idea to consider him a good source, when he has emotional interest in a subject.

the FO deserves credit for building a better team...was it JJ? Stevie? Willie? the Clapper? All of the above?

I will be more than happy to take full credit until we figure it out, you're welcome

The only real mistake lately appears to be Taco
I said that day it was a need pick and that’s rarely a good pick
Whether you like taco or not he wasn’t the best player availible
Got to stick to that with very few exceptions
Looking at upcoming draft there really isn’t a position I wouldn’t pick based on best player who is likely to be there

I think it’s all of the above as it should be
More minds make better decisions
Now in the end jerry makes the decision but he’s learned to listen to the football guys
And pants

I think it’s a little premature to be issuing credit for anyone before we have officially accomplished anything. Surely the last 23 years has taught us that respect is only earned through success in the playoffs. I’m encouraged about this young team. But I’m not going anoint or crown them until they do it.

To his credit, he only referred to them as "good" teams, and you don't have to win any playoff games to be considered a "good" team.

The point is of this thread is we have built a great defense which without we wouldn’t be a contender . That doesn’t need any additional team success to give credit to.

Right.

And regardless the team results we’ve built a great defense. Someone deserves credit.

I’d consider building a top 5 defense accomplishing something. Especially from where it was 4 or 5 years ago.
