Just saw a thread about the Jets fielding offers for Muhammed Wilkerson, or the Texans shopping DJ Swearinger. What are scenarios where you would give a pick to a team for an established player rather than a rookie?

Personally I can see giving a second or third round for a player who can come in and be a contributing starter.

It would be hard for me to do, because there's usually a reason a team puts a player up for trade, especially if that player is young.

Teams don't trade away players they drafted that are playing well on rookie salary unless there's an issue.

In the case of Wilkerson it's he wants to get paid plain and simple. .. and looking at our cap we aren't exactly in a position to hand out mega contracts even though I'd love to have him...

With swearinger(sp) idk why they are shopping him but I've read they like Collins upside better from the draft

It all depends on their contract situation. You don't want give up much for a guy on the last year of his contract. If you're going to use a significant amount of cap space on a player, you might as well get them in free agency and save the draft picks.

A 7th for a guy like Deon Jordon would have been interest before he was suspended.

I think Swearinger got into some trouble of some type. I don't remember the details.

I think Wilkerson is a good player, just don't see him as a fit here, so no to him. Swearinger is what we already have. if we trade for a safety it would really only make sense if we were getting a rangy free-safety type player.
