I don't think that's a dollar sign. The two straight up lines I think are l's, as in lala.

funny story
i had already gotten his autograph and then was like 'o man! i shuda got him to write 'beware' too'
so when i saw that his line was finished and he was just sitting there.. i asked one of the guards to ask him if i can come up again and get him to write it
and he said sure
