Pierce JR vs Mike Green-2 Edge in the class?

But we should be rebuilding our DEF into a 3-4 and looking to pair another OLB with Parsons.

Over in New Orleans they have had enough of the failing 4-3 they had under Allen and are building a 3-4 based on the Fangio scheme that Staley is familiar with. It could take a couple of years but I would think they will end up with an elite DEF.

We are going nowhere fast with this bend not break scheme, Criminal!
Should be is meaningless because we hired Eberflus as DC. He is a passive 4-3 DC

Just to get back to you on this, just wanted to point out the excitement on the Saints forum where they are switching to a 3-4. Their fans welcome the change. All the coaches they interviewed had a 3-4 background and in Staley they might have one of the best. Their draft board in terms of front 7 players will be totally different to ours so to say 3-4/4-3 is completely irrelevant is incorrect. From scouting to coaching it makes a huge difference.

Not trying to cause a row, just a friendly discussion.
What does Saints fans excitement have to do with the relevance of 3-4 VS 4-3 in modern football

Again even 3-4 teams are really in a 3 man from. They run a 4 man front in nickle and dime defenses. Thats almost 80% of the plays. 3-4 teams only use a 3 man front on obvious run downs

What about Donovan Ezeiruaku?

He's having a great combine, sure, but he also had 16.5 sacks and is only 21 years old.

Is it unrealistic that he has a Ware-like rise pre-draft and gets into the convo at 12?

I think its likely given how weak we are there and much Eberflus value the position. I could even see Campbell being a surprise candidate for 12
I agree but I'm thinking ( hoping ) the 2nd since that's where he drafted Leonard.
Wouldn't be surprised to see a trade down into the 20s to pick up an extra 2nd.

Pittsburgh and the Chargers would be the earliest picks that would net a 2nd. 52 and 55. The 1st round could really start to get weak at that though, so I dont know that that is something Id personally do. Im more about quality than quantity.

Don’t see how he’s not a 1st rounder. Elite production, good size / length and plus athlete.

We need a big bodied DE that can hold contain and set an edge. We have Kneeland in this mold but no one else. DLaw has never been an edge setter. He's twitchy. We need a big powerful edge guy. Green and Pearce aren't that. At 12 I'm moving back a few spots unless a guy falls into our lap.

I like Nic Scourton better than Green and Pearce. I like the fit with what we do. I also like Stewart. Both guys can set an edge. Drafting Green does little to make us more physically dominant up front. He's more of a pass rush specialist. In my opinion, he struggles against bigger guys and against a good running team. You don't draft a part time player in rd 1.

They want a change to a more aggressive DEF that has that element of confusion. I think they have had enough of the predictable 4-3. The Fangio scheme has proved to be very effective so they are probably excited about that.

As to obvious run downs in 2023 the Bucs, Steelers and Panthers were in 3-4 base approximately 1 in every 3 plays.

Too early I think. He’s a bit undersized but I’m a big fan. I think he could sneak into the backend of R1, but more likely somewhere in R2.

I guess he is a bit unlike Ware, in that the size is working against him.

Still, love the player and the potential still. Certainly should be an option if we trade down

According to what?

I just don't think you are grasping that teams dont use 3 man fronts in Nickel and Dime defenses anymore.
Incorrect.

If you look at 2023 stats the teams I quoted were in a base 3-4 , a third of the time.

You do realise teams have different draft boards based on whether they are 3-4 or 4-3?
