The NFL announced Wednesday officials will be using pink penalty flags for Sunday's game after an 11-year-old wrote Commissioner Roger Goodell with the suggestion.

In support of breast cancer awareness, pink has been highly visible this month, from coaches' caps to players' wristbands and cleats, and even officials' whistles. Dante Cano, a fifth-grader from Marlboro, N.J., then offered the idea of pink penalty flags. The NFL agreed and invited Cano and his family to MetLife Stadium; they will present the penalty flags to the officials before the game.

For real.

Certainly support the cause, but its not as if half of every team's uniform every week isn't pink already.

I think the point has been made.. pull it back a bit. Next, we'll be painting the grass pink in all the stadiums.

If Cleveland can dress up all year long like it is colon cancer month then 1 month out of the year for the ladies is not a lot to ask. :D

That should be a penalty.

Trying to push RG3 on us is one thing....making us swallow is another.

Even the refs hats had pink lines down them last week. I wouldn't be surprised pink footballs come along.

They did have the logo of the ribbon in pink that was on the football

How about instead of the players wearing pink and having pink flags they all just donate money to the cause each week. That will get more done than simply wearing pink.

I'm sure many of them do donate, the object of the pink is for awareness. I got to the point it is not a big deal for me and with a large precent of women who follow the NFL why not do it?

I'm hoping they do as well. I just think it is a little overboard. And for the most part I agree, it's just again seems a little overboard. Ha

why just breast cancer?

Ovarian cancer is terrible killer as well. But gets a lot less research money.

I agree somewhat. I would rather see the 1st weekend of Oct that player wear objects with pink then move on.

No big deal really. It's just for one game I'm sure. Most folks won't care what color the flag is as long as it's not being tossed on their team.

I don't mind as long as the pink flags only carry half the yardage for the home team. :laugh2:

I'll tell you what. They can do that for the rest of time if they keep the pink off the player's uniforms.

It is a great cause, but it really starts to get to me.

So negative.. why can't you just support the great cause?
