Any fast food/restaurants/etc. that had a bunch of hype behind them that lived up to it for you?

For me:

Krispy Kreme: I always heard about their amazing donuts. Closest one to me was Salt Lake City. Finally was visiting three and tried them. Loved it!! Thought it was amazing. They finally built one in the Boise area and I still love to visit it from time to time for an amazing dozen of donuts.

Whataburger: I am extremely jealous of you that live in the Whataburger region. I was visiting a friend in Phoenix and finally got to try one. I was not disappointed. It was really good. Unfortunately, I don't see them entering the Pacific Northwest region anytime soon. So, it'll definitely be an instant visit next time I ever see one.

Raising Cane's: I had heard about this place and how great their chicken is. Again, got to try it in Phoenix and was super impressed. When I went to Lake Tahoe a couple summers ago, there was one in Reno that we stopped at. Again, fantastic. Love their food. They have them in Reno and now Portland and Salt Lake, so, they are getting closer to the Boise area. I'll stay hopeful!

Fat Burger: We were walking through a casino at Lake Tahoe and I turned the corner and there was a Fat Burger. I've always heard of the burger chain, but have never got to try one. I wasn't super hungry, but I had to try it. So I ended up buying a burger alone. It was really good. I enjoyed it immensely. Not sure how the fries are there, but I would absolutely roll through one again for a burger.

Kind of:

In-N-Out: Here is the big one that gets a lot of spotlight. First time I had it was in Salt Lake and I loved it. Thought it was really great and it lived up to the hype. I had it again in Phoenix, and it was just good. Decided to stop there when I was in Reno a couple years back, and it was OK that time. The shake was actually pretty disappointing. So, it's been a bit all over the spectrum for me. They officially announced they are building in Boise, so I will get the opportunity to see how it is in the long run.

You might be in luck with Whataburger. Recently the chain was sold to a new group who has plans to expand them into new markets. So far I haven't noticed a drop in quality after over a year of new ownership.

Cook out here on the East Coast is pretty good. I was up North just a few years ago in the Nothern MN area and Culvers was very good.

i wish more people would boycott them so i could get a sandwich without having to wait 20 minutes
Chick Fil-A platters are one of my pet peeves. I do not have a problem with the restaurant selling them. The same goes for most people who order the platters. What grinds my gears are those SPECIAL folks getting multiple platters--sometimes five, ten or more--while ordering and picking them up IN THE DRIVE THRU!

Just who the heck do these blankety-blank-blank-blanks think they are? Customers are stalled BEHIND them in the drive thru trying to grab a quick meal. Employees INSIDE the restaurant hustling to take care of ONE customer for minutes at a time. These platter hogs could be courteous enough to get their blankety-blank-blank-blanks out of their vehicles, walk inside and haul off their own humongous orders but nooooo. Why waste any of your time helping free up the employeeS dedicated to getting your ONE order hand-delivered to you?

Makes me wish the back doors of a tractor-trailer, carrying 1,000 chickens, would suddenly swing open on the highway and land ALL over these folks' cars trailing behind it. Feathers flying everywhere. "buk, buk, buk, ba-GAWK!"

Dang, the Chick-fil-A's around here are super efficient. In fact, they're so good, I've driven into one with a huge drive-thru line and it did not deter me from staying. I went right through in a timely manner. I would figure it was a company wide process and they were all like that?

It has been my experience that the two restaurants near my work are super-efficient also. I have watched long lines in the drive thru progress quickly and smoothly.

That said, one restaurant is a brief walk from where I work. Sometimes I walk in and immediately notice a platter order situation. Cars not moving in the drive thru. A cattle line backed up from multiple registers. And three-to-five employees hustling where the food exits the kitchen, loading several large bags on the side, and later handing to the customer at the drive thru window.

Maybe folks in your area are more courteous and order ahead through the app, etc. Perhaps not but I do not think it is an efficiency problem. Food only cooks so fast.

The one in Grand Prairie is the slowest drive through I have ever been in It is always backed up all the way around the building You cant even park to go in because of the drive through cars.

It’s tough to find a Chick-Fil-A where the drive thru hasn’t turned into rush hour traffic.

Whataburger - first time in I thought 'now this is how a burger is put together'. I still prefer the meat in a Whopper because it tastes better but BK doesn't understand the burger for the Southern species.

I grew up in AR and the Hamburger was simple, mustard, pickle and onion. Deluxe was lettuce, tomato and mayo. The Cheeseburger wasn't even a deal back then.

The first Whopper I had had no mustard, instead it had ketchup and mayo and the combination of the regular and deluxe. By all that is Holy, how could this happen? Just who were these devils?

Leave it up to the fine folks at Whataburger to know mustard goes on the burger. Ya want something different, ya have to ask for that. Even McDonalds recognized this in the 80's and did the Classic in some of their markets. The Classic? Mustard.

Exactly! And to the poster who said Whataburger is expanding, can’t wait! There are 2-3 food chains I look for when in different areas of the country and this is definitely one of them.

So, funny, since I made this thread Raising Cane's has announced that they are officially looking into the Boise area. In-N-Out also announced a second location here.

Come on Whataburger!

In Nashville we have a place called " Fat Mo's" . His regular burger makes Hardee's & Burger King's whopper look like mini- bites. They are old fashioned style burgers. When my son's were kids they lived in another state from me,but when they came to visit ,that was a place they wanted to eat at.

Another in Nashville is " House of Pizza" . Only pizza I could take maybe 2 or 3 slices at most because they were so thick with toppings. Best pizza I ever had. Two brothers from New York own it. It is kind of funny remember Seinfeld episode " The Soup ****". There was a line outside the door to get in and if you said something to tick off the brothers " NO PIZZA FOR YOU"! My old boss was from Chicago and wanted to compare pizza and he ticked them off. Lol. I have had both styles, Chicago has nothing on these guys.

Tried all those chicken places, even the ones family owned. Not ONE, compared to the Colonels. ♡ that chicken!
