Former New York Giant wide receiver Plaxico Burress, who has served seven months of a two-year prison term at Oneida Correctional Facility he began in September for weapons possession after he infamously shot himself in the leg in a New York nightclub, has lost all of his recreation privileges for a month because, according to prison records, he lied to one of the guards.
According to his disciplinary report, the former receiver, now in the protective-custody wing of the correctional facility, was smacked with a one-month ban from recreational time after he had told one of the guards in November that he had permission to phone his lawyer, when in reality, he did not have permission to do so.
When Burress told the guard that he had permission, the guard believed him. Burress was allowed to have his own cell phone, and the guard let him make the call. Besides losing his recreation privileges, Burress was also barred from using the phone for a full week.
The ex-NFL receiver pleaded guilty on Aug. 20 to a gun possession charge in Manhattan and he was sentenced to two years in prison.
Burress accidentally shot himself in the leg at the Latin Quarter nightclub in Midtown New York while he was playing around with an unregistered handgun that was concealed in his pants.
Burress is scheduled to be released from the facility in the Spring of 2011.
