Mods, please give me leeway on this and delete or ignore the other similar thread.

I want to explore using the super imposed images for discussion.
- This play lends itself well to using the super imposed images.

I was NOT clear when I posted about this play in the other thread.

I do NOT care about who is to blame on this play.
- It's practice. INTs happen.

What if Cobb ran the route differently?
  • Specifically, what if Cobb stopped or slanted inside towards Woods?
  • Consider where the ball is located at the point of the INT.
  • Was it physically possible for Cobb to get between Dak & Woods?

It looks like Cobb ran his route and drifted back I guess that's why this preseason

He can stop but it’s too late for Dak to adjust where he’s throwing the ball given that this is the moment of release.

Edit: after viewing the video he may be able to get inside of Woods if he makes a sharp inward cut. That is clearly what Dak expected.

After viewing the video in slow motion several hundred times, I came to the conclusion that Dak threw the ball and Woods intercepted it. Wow!!! I'm glad I took the time to really analyze this play. Now we can sign Zeke and go win us a Superbowl!!! Go Cowboys!!!!!

I love that you're showing more vid analysis and how to watch a play effectively.
People can agree and disagree on the details, BUT
This is wonderful.

Wonderfully, wonderful!!!

Agree.

To me the basic issue is the following:

If Frame 1, Cobb is just a few feet from where the ball ends up getting intercepted in Frame 2.

In Frame 1, Woods is yards from where the ball ends up getting intercepted in Frame 2.

It was Garrett's fault.

This is the only right answer.

But yeah I initially thought this was a poor decision on Dak's part but after rewatching the video I can't figure out what Cobb is doing. He doesn't look like he did any cut at all. Surely he wasn't running a go route?

Yes, it does appear that Woods had more ground to cover to get to that spot. We're probably a bit depth-perception challenged here because the background in these stills is naturally compressed relative to the foreground. It would be nice to have an All 22 view to confirm.

I don't know what route he was supposed to run but that's a horrible jobs of "selling the route" - duke is looking at Dak from the jump.

Brown comes on a corner blitz. It looks like Dak thinks the hot read is a slant by Cobb. And, frankly, given Cobb's body position in frame 1, I'd have thought Cobb was on the same page. But then it looks like Cobb has second thoughts, realizing that Woods is sitting on the slant, and thinking he has him for 6 down the sideline if Dak sees it too.

Yes, the camera angle is not perfect for analysis.

The video is in post #6 of this thread.

The Cowboys film practices from the tower. Maybe they'll send that to us...
