I have to say this. I think one of the areas that Schotty should have been better was getting into the ref's ear about the play clock. I counted at least 5 or 6 times where the play clock was at 0 for at least 3 seconds before the Giants snapped the ball. I get that if it's at zero and then the ball is immediately snapped, that's one thing. I understand that the refs will look at the play clock and then see if the ball is snapped. However, that doesn't take 3 seconds.

Within those at least 5 or 6 times (before the refs finally flagged the Giants for it), there were at least 2-3 big plays the Giants benefitted from that I saw where the play should have been killed for delay of game. So, I think Schotty should have been in the ref's ear after the first time that happened. I'm not saying that it's why we lost, but it's a factor, and a factor Schotty needed to get after the refs for. Especially when you're on the road, if you're the coach, you are your team's best advocate in that situation. So, you have to make sure the refs are keeping a closer eye on the play clock.

I agree, but my point is more about the play clock. There is no way that it should take at least 6 "should be delay of games" before one gets called finally. Schotty should be near the ear of the sideline official telling him when the clock is at 0. Some of those could have been a difference both in play execution and potentially allow it us to defend a 3 and 12+.

The NFL practice on that is to be lenient within a second of the clock expiring if the ball is snapped right after.

Don't know why that is.

I saw one of these last night. It's true they give an extra second but the one I saw was more than the extra second. Refs were terrible overall last night. Why should this be any different?

Well, and that's why I'm saying. It happened multiple times from what I saw, and Schotty should have been in the refs ear about it. Home cooking happens, but the coach has to advocate for his team there. Even if it doesn't get called, the coach needs to make it clear that delay of game should be getting called.

For me, this is a detail that I think is overlooked with the coaching. I think Schotty is a decent coach still. But this is a detail that I wish he'd do more, and I don't know that our coaches have gotten in the refs ears nearly as much as they should. Sometimes, a coach has to lobby for calls from the ref for situations like this.

Same reason why we learned the “intent” of passing forward is not a fumble. They love to take something that passes a simple eye test and make it as confusing as possible

If it's a second or two, that's one thing imo. But I saw multiple occasions where it was 3+ seconds before the ball was snapped. That, Schotty should have been going after the officials for.

Since the clock doesn't have half seconds like in let's say the NBA refs allow some time after it hits zero because in reality might be 0.7s for example. That's the rule. Stupid but it is what it is.
