Play of our WRs

We've discussed our secondary problems til we are blue in the face. Time to talk about another concern.

Patriots were often effective in taking TO & Witten out of our offensive game plan. That left Romo with Crayton whose a good #3, backup Fazzino (sp?), etc. to get the job done and it's been noted on this board and by the announcers that Romo couldn't find anybody open.

Now against lesser teams then NE, TO & Witten along with Crayton get the job done & if a healthy, still speedy Glenn can return for Skins game, that's a big help. But TO & Glenn don't have much left & I don't see Crayton as a #2 unless our #1 is outstanding. Hopefully, Stanbach will really become a great WR, but when you have a good QB like Romo, you better make sure he has a good stable of WRs with speed & good hands, etc.

Realize that CB & frankly a real FS should be high priorities in upcoming draft, but sure hope same goes for WR & RB (assuming JJ doesn't come back).

BTW: It sure would be nice if the Browns would stop winning soon. I'd like to see us end up with a top 10 pick which we can use on a need player (not McFadden) or trade down 3-4 spaces & add a high 2nd round pick.

im not all that concerned about who is catching passes, at least not for this year. here are what the top 3 cowboy receivers are on pace for

Crayton 64 receptions, 1016 yds and 11 TD's
Witten 85 receptions, 1211 yds and 11 TD's
TO 72 receptions, 1208 yds and 11 TD's

now we will worry about next year, next year

It will be interesting to see what stats the WRs will end up with at end of this season. If we get close to anything near those projected numbers, I'd be very happy.

Owens , yeah, but I cannot complain about Jason. He's as reliable a receiver that we have and hasn't dropped half as many as T.O. WR is a position that needs to be addressed EARLY in the draft because we cannot rely on two 34 y/o pass catchers to play a complete season (even though Mr Owens seems to be a workout warrior). Crayton will be re-signed and Hurd might be a decent 3rd or 4th but Stanback cannot even dress for games so I don't see him as a viable option in the near future.

I would be shocked if whoever succeeds Owens isn't "outstanding." Anything less would be a waste of Romo's career.

I imagine those numbers aren't going to be reached if and when Terry Glenn gets back on the field.

I don't guess I get everybody's obsession with draft position. Does it matter whether a guy is a 1st, 2nd, or 7th round pick? If he can play, he can play. Terry Glenn will make this team better. Crayton is a very good, very reliable #3 and can fill in for #2 in case of injury, but imo he doesn't have enough speed to be a vertical threat. TO imo is just better when he's given more chances in the middle of the field. Yea they need to add somebody who's a deep threat next year to challenge Austin and Hurd and if somebody is available in the first round who's great value, hey go for him. But you guys all act like you'd be disappointed in somebody like say Devin Hester, because he's only a fourth round pick (yes yes I understand he's a kick returner and not really a receiver).
