What do you guys think?

I really thought Newman needed to be there for the opener and was hoping he would be but now that Dallas is going to miami who looks to be a lesser team, can dallas afford to sit him this week?

I want to see him out there but I think the team can get by without him.

Rest him, I have absolutely no fear of Trent Green. I'm more worried about their defense.

I would hope that we can stop the run this time round, and I don't think not having Newman will affect that much.

If you can get away with resting him, I would prefer that he be healthy later instead of re-aggravating this thing.

I actually sort of think that this defense should be a little extra motivated this week. Whether people admit it or not, I think there is a tendency to overlook some teams. After giving up a lot of yards and points last week, I don't think that should happen this week.

Rest him. Each season is a survival test of the fittest. I'd rather increase the odds of Newman being on the field when it will matter much more than week 2. Also throw in:
  • It's a non-division game
  • It's a non-conference game
  • While we will be tested in allowing points, the offense will score a lot of points :crossed:
All good points for factoring in tiebreaking scenarios if needed at season's end.

you gotta rest him...this defense will struggle if he is not 100%...the next 2 teams cannot score more than 17 points against us...and now orlando pace is out for the season, so the rams might not want to pass as much...we newman healthy, because we also are going to need him to return punts in the right situation..........this defense has enough motivation right now that they will perform without newman

Rest him. No need to risk it.

I agree rest him until after the Chicago game. That will give him 5-6 weeks of rest. We will need him against the Rams.

Edit: If he doesn't play against Miami and Chicago and we win those games, I would rest him until our first loss as a result of the defense. I would rather have Tnew as healthy as possible for the long stretch of the season.

Rest him. There's no need to risk him re injuring his foot when we're only facing Miami.

I guess it just depends on how he feels. This is certainly a losable road game and I have no reason to believe that Chambers isn't capable of torching this defense with a guy like Trent throwing him the ball.

Like I said, depends on how he feels. If in doubt, rest him.

I say play him in spot duty so, he can get some live action for the first time since the first pre-season game.

Chambers worries me some, but I rest him this week and next week versus CHI, then go from there.

Rest him. Even if we don't get by Miami, the right decision is to rest him until and if he can be healthy this year. Reports are mixed, but it sounds like the team thinks he can be back at full strength now, contrary to what was reported earlier.

I say it depends on how he feels. It definitely seems like the trainers and coaching staff are taking no chances. Spagnola said he saw him warm up for the trainers before the game and he looked pretty good moving around but they still shut him down.

There are only 15 games left and all of them are of huge significance division.conference opponent or not id like to see us wrap up the division early and be resting guys for the playoffs rather than resting guys now and having to play all the way to the wire.

If he is feeling well enough to play i say play him. im still kinda confused about the comments about how if he completely tore it he would be okay but since its only a partial tear its causing an issue. Wish Jobber, Eskimo or another health professional could pipe in on that.

Ditto that. Also, if they wanted it to be completely torn, why not let him run around in practice and tear it?

This game will be a shoot out without him. It doesn't matter who we are playing if this D doesn't turn things around evry week end will be a shoot out.

If he can go then he should play. Only Newman will be able to determine how he feels

From what I've read, it's just a matter of him dealing with the pain or not. Although he can tear it, that doesn't actually make things worse. So if he's able, he should play. Our defense cant take ANY opponent lightly.
Chambers destroyed us with Jay Fielder a few years ago. No reason to think Trent Green cant do the same with chambers on sunday. So again, if Newman can play effectively and deal with the pain, he needs to play.
