I am not a cap guru, nor did I stay at a Holiday Inn Express either....

Lee sat out and did not get his $2 million bonus. Hardy did not get his 2 sacks so did not get his $500,000 bonus. This saves us cap space fro 2016. Regardless if Hardy is re-signed or not.

McFadden met his incentive to get his bonus, but that was negligible. But did that count on 2015 or 2016 cap?
Any other players to receive any bonuses that goes toward the 2016 cap?

So how much carry over from 2015 to 2016 do we get credit for?
Are there any players due a roster bonus that can save if they are cut. Or how much if they stay?

How much cap room do we save if Carr is cut before June 1st, and how much after June 1st. And what will it cost to replace him, through FA or a draft pick. I know the answer most will give, but is it still better we let him play out his contract, knowing we will still need to pay a player to replace him, or use a high draft pick that can go to a different position. So I see them waiting until after the draft for a decision.

What are we currently under the cap, and what is the expected increase in the cap.

Overall, I believe we will be in pretty good shape to get some FA's in here or sign some of our own.
Also, what players could restructure without having to pay a big price once they are gone, or retire. Like Witten or Romo in 3 years or so. If not out through injury first.

You can bet that if Carr is cut, the cut will be designated post-1 June.

These are good questions, I hope a cap guy can answer them for us !!!:yourock:

If I recall correctly, it has to do with whether an incentive/bonus is "likely to be earned" or "unlikely to be earned."

If the bonus is something the player did the previous year, it would be "likely to be earned," and count against the 2015 (or current year) cap. "Unlikely to be earned" do not count towards the current cap year, and money will be taken from the next years cap (2016) if they are reached.

McFadden's bonus will have been "unlikely to be earned," since he had not rushed for 1000+ yards last year. His bonus will count against next years cap.

Hardy and Lee should be the same, as Lee missed last season with an injury and Hardy on paid leave. The 2.5 million, combined, from Lee and Hardy missing their incentives isn't subtracted from next year; it simply isn't added for cap purposes.

I'm not Adam though, so I could be off-base with these.

They could have had his bags packed outside the locker room after the skins game and that would have suited me fine.

I hear ya. I think they cut him as soon as they legally can and designate him as a 1 June cut. I've also read where they might seek to renegotiate his deal and keep him at a lower salary. Of course, we heard the same thing last year.

DAL finished around 4m under the cap for 2015. Now the adjustments will be made
The cap for 2016 should be 153m, up from 143m this year
Any unused cap space can be carried over to 2016

They will adjust the 2015 cap for any bonuses like McFadden's 300k
We should also get back 750k from the Brinkley deal after he played all year with NYG

Hardy's final cap number for 2015 was right around 9m. He will have no dead money if not re-signed

Carr gets 9.1m this year in salary and counts 13.8m against the cap
If he is cut outright the team will save 6.4m in cap space, no dead money
If he his June 1st cut the team will save 9.1m cap space, 2.7m dead money in 2017

Overall DAL will be about 14m under the cap for 2016 at 153m with 4m carryover
DAL can create another 12m in space if they restructure TSmith and TCrawford
Besides Carr they can create 2.5m in space if they cut Free, 2.75m for Church and 1.3m for Gachkar
They can also create another 20m by re-doing Romo, Witten, Lee, Scandrick, Dez

Money and cap space is no problem next year(they have only 900k in dead money)
The biggest FAs are GHardy, Leary, Bern, Hanna, Dunbar, Mincey, RoMcClain, Claiborne

We aren't cutting free , he had a good season . It would just leave another HUGE hole to fill. Carr I hope so ! Leary is restricted he'll be cheap.

Please don't redo Romo[/q uote]

His salary is only 8.5m this year so he is not a prime candidate but I was just listing the easily available piggy banks that exist.

If they are serious about competing, cap space should not be brought up as an excuse. If it is then you know the FO is selling a bill of goods.

Leary will be at least 2.5m for a 2nd round tender which is a lot for an OG backup. At least Bern can play C or OG.

Free isn't that good. He has a 5.5m cap hit which isn't peanuts. We didn't waste a 3rd on Green for nothing. We have paid Free a crapload of money for very average play, just like Carr.
