Player Update: Sam Hurd, WR

Sam Hurd could challenge for the Cowboys' number two receiver role, according to ESPN.

Our View: Hurd was impressive in OTAs, and apparently has what it takes to beat out Patrick Crayton and Miles Austin. With Tony Romo under center and Terrell Owens out of the picture, even if he doesn't earn the number two receiver spot, he's likely to dramatically improve on his 2007 (he missed all of 2008 with injury) numbers of 19 catches and 314 yards.

According to ESPN, Sam Hurd was impressive in OTAs? Was anyone from ESPN even at the OTAs to observe Hurd and the other WRs? And OTAs are hardly representative of how the game is played live in the game, so how can they objectivley come out with this conclusion? BSPN!

The local reporters are the ones who said that Hurd stood out in practices, back when they had OTAs.

Hurd is a lock to make the team but barring injuries to Austin and Crayton has very little chance of starting. I like him but if he's our starting WR we are probably in trouble.

No way Hurd gets the No. 2 job. No way.

Roy, Crayton Austin Hurd.

And I dont see him improving much from 2007. Felix and Marty B will see plenty of balls thrown their way.

Play special teams Sam and be ready when your number is called. But Hurd isn't starting this year.

Really? Is it that far-fetched he could beat our Austin? Prior to Tony Romo's comment in TC last year, Hurd was generally considered ahead of Austin. He's a similar player to Crayton, but I could see him pushing him, as well. I hope he does. Crayton, too, was supposed to have been on fire in mini-camp.

I coulod see hurd beating out Crayton. Neither is fast but Hurd is bigger and might be hungrier. But no way does Hurd beat out a healthy Austin. Austins speed is a critical need and the way he played last year before his injury he was going to be the #2.

He is a lock and he's a couple inches taller than Crayton. He also put on about ten pounds this year, up to 6-2 205. Which is Michael Irvin size.
