The NFL Players Association is putting into place a plan that would prevent each top college prospect from attending next month's draft in New York, according to multiple league sources. The NFLPA already has contacted 17 top prospects that ordinarily would have received an invitation to attend the draft and informed them not to go.

Thus, when NFL commissioner Roger Goodell announces the name of the first player selected, the player will not walk on to the stage at Radio City Music Hall as has been the custom. And the player will not be there to do interviews with ESPN or NFL Network. The draft will go on, but not in the manner in which it has been conducted before.

now how do you like that zoners, possibly a really good player we draft in 1st round, might not be there at draft time, this shows that the players and NFLPA doesnt care about the fans at all, just the money and themselves. Love the NFLPA now ?

If they are no longer a union, what power or authority do they have to tell this or that player not to show up?

On a side note...I don't care if a player does not show up to hold a jersey, put on a hat and shake the commissioner's hand. I just care that they are drafted and will eventually (hopefully) play for the team that drafted them.

Just kind of sounds silly.

That was my first thought too, and isn't this kind of shooting themselves in the foot when they need to walk into court pretty soon and prove they really are decertified?

Also agree, could care less if they are there. The interviews are just happy breaks from having to listen to Chris Berman.

i do, i love seeing the players at the draft, and was hoping that this year, we get an impact player there, and we can hear what he says etc... Live at the draft, after being drafted by the cowboys

granted, players can do what they want, but this shows the contempt that the NLFPA and players have for the fan that loves football and the draft, they want to take that away from us, which shows they dont care about the fans, just the money

Question. If there is no NFLPA for Von Miller to join and Von Miller isn't drafted and doesn't have nor has he ever been offered a contract then why exactly can he sue as if he was a player?

Does this mean I can sue over labor issues any company in said field that doesn't have a union even though I don't actually work in that field?

I think the NFL should hold the draft, but send out notice that formal acceptance is required. If they do not send an acceptance note, they won't be eligible to be drafted.

Yes it does. Recall the case of Maurice Clarett suing over the rules that kept him out of the draft. He won at the District Court level on his antitrust action, but that decision was overturned on appeal based on a nonstatutory exemption from the antitrust rules.
