Well, frankly, we know what limits how far the Cowboys go in post season. Until that gets addressed..........

No . We don't know, so please , tell us

Risner was everyone's guy a while back, apparently because he is somewhat of a name player. Not sure he is much better than what we've got. Early in free agency they were talking he wanted a deal more than 10m per year, but apparently got no bites. Not sure how low he is willing to drop...probably should take a one year prove it deal. Of course he has the baggage of getting in a fight with his QB during a game...teams definitely would be concerned about that.

I'm still iffy on LB, not completely sold on RB, but really don't expect much to happen unless there is an injury.

Well, tbf, it WAS Russell Wilson. And a one year deal for Risner would be good. We'd have quality depth at guard.

To an extent, I can see that, but I think Drake is a very good RB, and he wouldn't cost a draft pick.
Normally I’d agree with that philosophy but with an all out season at hand, I’d load up with “great” over very good……….Dalvins price tag may make that a moot point.

The Rams give up these precious draft picks and parlay that into getting to a SB twice a decade.

two very different philosophies between us and the Rams though

True, but also, like you said, Dalvin's price tag is why I think Drake might be a better option. I certainly wouldn't give up a 1 or 2nd for Cook. Number one, we'd have to extend him and two, I think he wants a big payday.

If we sign all of these players, we'd have depth at Guard, depth at DB, depth at OT, depth at RB, more depth at DE, and depth at LB. We typically have excellent starters, but we tend to lack in depth. These signings would give us better depth.
We are at a point where we have to look more at who we can keep. We need to save as much cap space as possible to retain current Cowboys players. Keep drafting well to have a nice mix of vets and youths. No Hopkins nor Cook. May have to release D-Law to keep Sam Williams, Parsons, and Diggs. Steele is up as well. i would rather keep Gilmore for 2 more years after this season.

I know Hopkins is a hot topic, but we have other needs. So, using https://nfltraderumors.co/top-100-2023-nfl-free-agents-list/, let's look at 5 players the Cowboys should sign:

  1. Dalton Risner (Guard) - Dalton Risner was last playing with the Broncos. He's a solid guard. Given the fact that it sounds as if there may be an issue with Steele being ready for camp, bringing in Risner should be a priority (along with getting the Diggs and Lamb deals done). Yes, he's a guard, but Risner would mean that he can be plugged in at LG while Steele takes LT and Smith takes RT. He'd give us an experienced guard. Him and Egoda would make good depth at guard.
  2. Ronald Darby (CB) - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ronald_Darby . It appears that the Cowboys may want another CB. Well, why not Darby? He's a bit of a journeyman, but he'd give us depth at CB and has decent numbers. Plus, his age isn't too bad for a DB.
  3. Taylor Lewan (OT) - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taylor_Lewan . Yes, I know, this is another olineman. And yes, I like Asim Richards. However, I don't trust Ball. I think Waletzco seems decent, but Lewan would provide quality depth at tackle. With Tyron Smith's injury history, Lewan would be a smart signing for the Cowboys. If Tyron goes down, then Lewan could step in straight away. Probably wouldn't cost much, and 32 isn't a bad age for a tackle.
  4. Kenyan Drake (RB) - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kenyan_Drake . We could use RB depth, and Drake isn't a bad depth option. I'd chuck in a vet min deal with incentives, if I were the FO, and see if I can't get him in to compete for a spot at RB. He's usually solid.
  5. Carl Nassib (DE) - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carl_Nassib . I know we have a lot of Dline, but a bit more depth at Oline could be good. Plus, he was decent with the Bucs last year. He'd be a nice cheap option to kick the tires on and see how he handles camp with us. I think he's someone who I think Quinn would enjoy using as a pass rusher.
Bonus player:
- Rashaan Evans (LB) - (https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rashaan_Evans) we could use LB depth, and I think Evans would be good depth.

So yes, I think these would be cost-effective and cost efficient signings that would give our team depth in areas that we need and/or could use depth.
I see your point. Key word is PROVEN depth. Have some positions fans are high on but with little game time experience to back that up. Not a Cap Expert but I think most of them you could probably sign with contracts that don’t hurt if you do quickly part ways.

The other point of view is Coach is high on the unproven player and looks at this vet as a progress blocker.

No instant FA solutions left.

Burning up draft capital for Cook isn't going to help the Cowboys win in January.

Use those picks to address the real problem.

They could add 10 RB's and it wouldn't help. That isn't the problem.
How many picks do you think it would cost to get Jerry to step down at GM?

No to more OL. They signed who they wanted already. I'd look at anything else

I agree the money could be way better spent than signing Hopkins or cook , I don't think they're gonna make a decision on adding more veterans until way deep into training camp or preseason so they can see what they got right now and then make a decision on what they might still need before game one

1. I assume you meant with Risner at LG it would be Tyler Smith at LT & Tyron Smith at RT?
2. Seems like a worthy consideration
3. Lewen has been a very good player in his career, but he's 32 and was a big injury problem the last 3 years, so that could be a concern
4. I like Drake. He's a tough runner, and right now we are very short on certainty at the RB spot. I doubt we would keep both he and Jones though, so he may be hard to justify if they like Jones
5. I don't see how Nassib brings anything more than we already have, and we will already likely have to cut some folks at DE

BONUS: Evans is a 4 year starter and had a huge 159 tackles last year, so I doubt he wants to be somewhere merely as depth

1. Yes, I did.
2. I'd be thrilled if we got him.
3. I agree to an extent, but maybe a change of scenery could be good.
4. I think that's where it'd be fun watching them in camp.
5. True

Bonus: I could see that, but Quinn would probably use him quite a bit, even if he's not starting.
