I would prefer to move out most or all players that will definitely not be here next year.

I would like to Cut:

DE Olshansky, Igor
G Holland, Montrae
OLB Williams, Brandon
FB All Fullbacks
CB Ball, Alan
QB Kitna, Jon
ILB Brooking or James (keep only 1 of these 2)
CB Consider cutting or trading Newman (he might be the best CB when healty but that is a big if)

I would like to keep:

CB Butler, Mario
CB McCann, Bryan
CB Thomas, Josh
OLB Albright, Alex
RB Tanner, Phillip
S McCray, Danny
S Owusu-Ansah, Akwasi
TE Rucker, Martin
WR Radway, Raymond
ILB Cummings, Kenwin
ILB Lemon, Orie
10 OL

You would cut Bradie James!?!? Not sure if serious...

I think we need one fullback. Not all. Also, Newman should never be cut that's ridiculous.... especially if you want to cut Ball, who is actually decent at corner (not safety). But no way Newman gets cut; I wouldn't even trade him.

Also, Brooking is a good veteran to have around for depth and experience.

Kitna.... Who would be the 3rd QB?

Here's a little stat about James for you....

2009:
Finished with 181 tackles to lead the team in tackles for the fifth straight season - the longest leading tackle streak in club history and the most times a single player has led the team in tackles since the team first started keeping tackle statistics in 1979.

Trading him would be better.

Brady James is the type of player that Belichick would trade...overrated, over paid and in the last year of his contract.

In the ESPN chat today, most of the reporters named James as the most overrated Cowboy. Also, many posters agree with this sentiment in the over/under rated post.

I would be arguing that Bradie James might be the most underrated player on our team. I would love for him to stay in Dallas.

--------------------------------------------
DE Olshansky, Igor - Plenty of D-line depth and he serves no purpose
G Holland, Montrae - Nagy/Arkin
OLB Williams, Brandon - OLB Albright, Alex
FB All Fullbacks - Move Phillips and Flex Rucker
CB Ball, Alan - he is a keeper as a fourth corner
QB Kitna, Jon - If Romo goes down season is lost either way. Save a roster spot and speed up Mcgee's development and play him exclusively.
ILB Brooking or James - James is a monster and Brooking brings leadership- With a new defense you can't cut leadership.
CB Consider cutting or trading Newman.- Our best corner and you want to cut him? I would take an injured Newman over Josh Thomas and Scandrick anyday of the week. Not to say they are bad players, but not at the Newman level.

OLB Albright, Alex
RB Tanner, Phillip

I agree with all the keepers above :)

2009 is a LONG time ago. There was a time when this team had the league's all-time leading rusher too... remember where he ended his career.

There does come a point when loyalty to a player must be put aside for what's best for the team.

That said, I think James' leadership ability is his #1 attribute and why he's important for this defense.

2 seasons ago.... and that was his 5th season in a row leading the team in tackles... I think that speaks enough about Bradies on field ability. He is a starter on this team.

He increased last season from 09. No old loyalty needed to keep him. He's just plain good enough to be a more than effective starter on this team.

Bradie James brings his hard hat to work every single week. I will never understand some people's disdain at the guy. He's been one of few constants on the defense for years (the only other constants I would say are Ware, Ratliff, Spears, and Newman).

Yep completely agree. Bradie has never missed a game either since he became a starter. I can't ever remember one time where I have been shaking my head or yelling at my TV because Bradie did something wrong.

Never. I said this before, and the mouthbreathers here don't get it, but if the only time I hear his name called above all else is when he's blowing up Brandon Jacobs on 4th and 1 to get a turnover on downs, then he's doing his job.

Same with Sean Lee -- if I don't hear his name called out for playing like a chump, then I know he's doing his job well as an ILB. People don't get it though - they think that unless a guy is finishing with 400 tackles, 25 picks, and 18 sacks a year he has to be cut because he's "not a playmaker."

Haha I was just watching that 4th and one stuff lol.

And yes I agree the less you hear about an ILB the better he is doing for the most part. He's not going to be a flashy big play guy there all we need him to do is wrap up to protect the D.

Bradie is our Trojan Man. ;)

I wouldn't have it any other way.

Thanks basstapp for the well thought out response. You make some good points.

Some reasons that I question the value of Bradie James are:

How many snaps will James get this year if they take him out of nickel and dime packages?

Is there any chance that they sign James to a new deal next year?

If neither James or Brooking are on the team next year, which one would be the better leader this year?

Some reasons that I question the value of Newman are:

What is the chance that they sign him to a new deal next year?

What is the chance that Newman makes it though 16 games?

If Newman had to play the slot and Scandrick only played outside, who would look better?

I'm not saying that I know the answers, just thinking through the issues.

I agree that Bradie needs to stay in Dallas. He is arguably our best run stopper. I just think he needs to be relieved of duties in 3rd and long situations in favor of better coverage LB's. But most definitely, he belongs in Dallas.

And there's nothing wrong with pulling him out on 3rd and long and inserting a guy like Orie Lemon or Kenwin Cummings, who might be smaller linebackers but are more athletic and able to cover better sideline to sideline.

But anyone thinking that Bradie James is "overpaid" or "overrated" needs a psych eval.

I guess that a lot of people need psych evals then:

10:47 [Comment From CarlosLaw14CarlosLaw14: ]
Who is the most overrated and underrated player on the team?

10:48 Tim MacMahon (ESPNDallas): Most overrated? Bradie James, but only by himself. Most underrated? Kyle Kosier isn't recognized for being a consistent key cog on the O-line.

10:49 BryanBroaddus: Overrated Bradie James, Underated Doug Free.

10:49 Todd Archer (ESPNDallas): Depends on how you do the rating, but I can agree with Tim on overrated and Kosier on underrated but I'll go with Elam as underrated. He'll be the biggest upgrade on the team.
