Let's look at the players under contract next year and try to get an early jump on figuring out where things might go. It's pretty easy to see where the needs are.

QB

Dak Prescott (franchise tag)
Ben DiNucci
Garrett Gilbert

Prescott will likely be tagged again in hopes of working out a deal. I don't think it's likely that he'll be tagged and traded, but it's possible they draft another developmental QB in the mid rounds. It's probably a good idea to bring in another Andy Dalton type as QB2. Cooper Rush is also on the practice squad. I could see a battle between him, DiNucci, and Gilbert for the QB3 spot. That may be a practice squad position instead of a place on the active roster.

OT
Tyron Smith
La'el Collins
Terrence Steel
Brandon Knight
Mitch Hyatt

I don't see any point in bringing back Cam Erving. With question marks surrounding the health of both starters, this is a sneaky early draft need. A swing tackle in Round 3 would be a home run. Is Knight more of a guard than a tackle?

OG
Zack Martin
Connor Williams
Connor McGovern

This is a strength of the team. Williams and McGovern have both made strides this year. Martin could flex out to RT if there's an issue with Collins' recovery and the team doesn't draft a tackle.

C
Tyler Biadasz

Biadasz is the projected starting center by default since he's the only one signed for 2021. Will they bring back either Joe Looney or Adam Redmond for competition and depth, or look to the draft/free agency?

WR
Amari Cooper
Michael Gallup
CeeDee Lamb
Stephen Guidry

The top 3 are a lock to return, but after that is anyone's guess because no one else is under contract except for Stephen Guidry for some reason. They could bring back Cedric Wilson on a RFA tender, but is he worth the cost in a year when money is tight and the draft is deep with WR talent? Would they entertain trade offers for Cooper if the price is right?

TE
Blake Jarwin
Dalton Schultz
Sean McKeon

Not a bad starting duo. They need a better third guy if they don't bring back Blake Bell. Is Jarwin good enough to keep the team from drafting someone like Kyle Pitts if he's the best player available?

RB
Ezekial Elliot
Tony Pollard
Rico Dowdle

I don't even want to talk about these guys. Elliot's contract prevents him from being moved before 2023 in all likelihood. Maybe they draft a mid-round developmental guy. Maybe they roll with Dowdle and hope for good health.

FB
Jamize Olawale

I don't understand why he was resigned in the first place. He'll at least make it to camp. Will the team keep a FB next year or go heavy at TE again?

EDGE
Demarcus Lawrence
Randy Gregory
Dorance Armstrong
Bradley Anae

This looks to be a solid group if they can bring back Aldon Smith. Frankly, I wouldn't be looking for edge rush help early on when both DT spots are a dumpster fire.

DT
Trysten Hill
Neville Gallimore
Justin Hamilton

Embarrassing. Do they care enough to bring back Antwaun Woods on a RFA tender? Dallas needs new starters at both DT spots next year if they want to compete.

LB
Leighton Vander Esch
Jaylon Smith
Luke Gifford
Azur Kamara

Another subpar position group. With Vander Esch in a contract year and Smith in a "prove it" year, this team needs LB help in 2021 and beyond. Don't be surprised if Dallas shows draft interest in the first round.

CB
Trevon Diggs
Anthony Brown
Maurice Canady

Yikes. Canady is slated to be the team's CB3 after opting out for the 2020 season. Secondary is probably this team's biggest need next year.

S
Donovan Wilson
Reggie Robinson
Steven Parker

Yikes again. Does Xavier Woods come back on a one-year "prove it" deal? Is Robinson actually a safety or does he belong back at CB? Another major need next year.

What do you guys think? Who would you like to see brought in via free agency or the draft?

I think we are ******.
i dont that solid core add a few FASS and a solid to very good draft for defense our offense showed even at 8-8 1-3 they can score on anyone..

the defense can get turned around quickly, look how well they started playing after some changes made mid season..not great but for sure better

When you have Louisiana Lighting the second you don't need any body else.

We've got a lot of work to do. I feel like we're going to have to go heavy in the secondary which kind of sucks as we already tried to rebuild this when we brought on Awuzie, Lewis, Brown, etc. Letting go of Charvarius Ward was a mistake as he would have given us depth, but we nixed him for a crappy OL.

I'd rather draft heavier at CB than S.

Appreciate the work.

After typing all this out, here's what I see:

FA Additions
- QB2. Maybe they resign Dalton. Maybe they take a chance on someone like Jameis Winston. It'll probably be a one-year deal with the hope of getting a compensatory pick out of it later. That's a smart move.
- C. I imagine they'll try to resign Looney or Redmond, but if not, they'll bring in someone for competition and depth.
- DT. They'll sign another Gerald McCoy type and let Hill and Gallimore battle it out for a spot in the rotation. They might try to pick up another big 1T, but that's a position they can find in the middle of the draft.
- CB. I thought they were dumb for not bringing in one of the cheaper vet guys this year. I was right. I doubt Awuzie or Lewis comes back. A veteran to pair with Diggs would be a smart move. Let Brown fight for a roster spot. You can save money by cutting him if you find enough corners that can play.
- Safety. They need at least one bridge player to compete with Wilson for one of the safety spots, and then one more in case they don't get anyone at the top of the draft.

Draft Targets
- CB. Possibly the biggest need, even if they bring in a veteran starter.
- S. Same as CB.
- DT. Both spots are in play here, but especially nose tackle.
- LB. I don't think they'll sign a starter in FA, but they will target one in the draft.
- OT. Need a swing tackle.
- TE. Schultz is gone after next year.

This is the position targeting a mid-level free agent starter but one with strong leadership. In other words, I can see wanting a vet to QB the make-over unit of basically all young players.

DB is definitely a high priority. We need both CB & S and not just 1 of each.

Farley & Surtain II are the only CBs around the top 10 pick. Of course it's way early, but it falls off to the 20s for the next CB. Funny how both were compared to Byron J.

I can't see Dallas getting a S in the 1st round. Heck we'll probably wait until the 3rd or 4th round.

Top 3 are red alert needs. I think LB/OT are more depth needs for next year, in hopes of finding future starters down the line. I would also add edge rusher to the list.

Great writeup.

You are selling DT's Hill and Gallimore short. They are far from dumpster fire players. I would still add a DT early in the draft and sign a vet. Then that position would be in much better shape than it has been in years.
