Who do YOU feel are the guys that have not lived up to your expectations this season? Please give your reasons why.
I don't care why you disagree with me and don't want to hear it, what I want to hear are which players have let YOU down this year.
Here's my list:
1. Marco Rivera - Last year we heard that the problem was with his back but that this season he was all better now and would be outstanding for us at RG. Well, he sucks! If anything, he is worse this year than last season. He is far and away the weakest link on the O-Line and this has been the downfall of our offense the last few weeks as we have been unable to run the ball consistently on 1st & 2nd downs. He is the 2nd player I would replace after Owens in the offseason. I might keep him for depth depending on the cap implications but I would find another starter at RG.
2. Terrell Owens - Considering that I was expecting him to drop passes, short arm balls, pull up when he thought he might get hit, run lousy routes, and cause problems with the team, which he has done throughout his career, he STILL hasn't lived up to what I thought he would do well for us, which was take short passes and turn them into long TDs. So far he has broken ONE short pass for a long TD this year, ONE! He would be my first cut this offseason. He has put up some decent numbers but not $12M worth! And he has cost us a couple of games with his drops at inopportune times. I would rather suffer with Crayton, Hurd, and Austin opposite Glenn, at least they will improve.
3. Marcus Spears - I was so excited when we drafted this kid because he was a beast at LSU but he has done very little for us since that day. I thought he would be perfect for the 3-4 and could slide inside when we went to 4 DLs but nope, he hasn't been what I was hoping for. He is pretty good against the run but is a non-entity in the pass-rush.
4. Chris Canty - Here's another guy I was thrilled to get in the draft and he showed a lot of promise as a rookie but he has done nothing this year. He isn't even as good against the run as Spears. Both of our starting DEs have been major disappointments this year. I like our backups though as Hatcher, Coleman, and Ratliff have all played well in limited time. Maybe Spears and Canty would work better in a 4-3, I don't know, but I do know they suck right now.
5. Anthony Henry - Henry has been burnt so many times this year for TDs that he has earned Elvis Patterson's nickname of "Toast". For a guy who had a reputation for playing the ball he has certainly not shown it this year. He has also missed a lot of tackles and seems reluctant to make a big hit. I see him standing around a lot instead of pursuing the receiver after a catch when it looks like he could make a play on the guy. Lackluster is the word that best describes his play this season. He looked like he was in no particular hurry on his INT the other night, just jogging along. I have no idea why we continue to start him at CB instead of moving him to FS where we really need help. I guess Aaron Glenn isn't much of an upgrade though.
6. Julius Jones - He has shown flashes at times but simply runs into the pile way too often. Barber may not have his speed but at least he usually finds a hole and is always moving forward. Jones goes down too easily lately too. Now granted he is getting the ball on running downs and there haven't been many holes for him but he isn't even looking for them anymore, just running into the pile. I expected a lot more from him this year.
7. Kevin Burnett - Here is another guy I thought would really step up this year but he doesn't have his head in the game at all. I don't know if it is because he's not starting or what but he's not into it.
8. Bobby Carpenter - For a 1st round pick he sure has taken a LONG time to start coming around and has yet to really make an impact in a game.
9. Anthony Fasano - I thought maybe Bill knew something that we didn't when he passed on OT Marcus McNeil (traded down and the Chargers took him with the next pick) to take a TE we didn't need. His reasoning was that we would be running a 2-TE set as our base offense and Fasano was the next Bavaro. Yeah, well he ain't Bavaro and we hardly run the 2-TE set. Even if McNeil wouldn't have started over Columbo, he would be a better backup option than Fabini. Thsi is probably more of a disappointment with how the coaching staff is using Fasano but if he were all that then he would be playing more.
10. Mike Vanderjagt - I know he's no longer with the team but we had high hopes of fixing our kicking woes when we brought in the all-time best kicker but he totally sucked! He sucked so badly that we cut him in mid season! Even worse, no other team has signed him! The Commanders signed the guy we cut to keep Vandy! He cost us at least one game this year and never came close to living up to our expectations.
My hope is that Parcells decides to retire after the season, we bring in a new coach who wants a whole new staff as well as a return to the 4-3. We cut Owens, Fabini, and Bledsoe and sign/draft OL, WR, CB, and FS.
