First I realize a lot of people are pro Buehler (especially thinking that with the new kickoff rules that we won't have to deal with kick returns anymore), but when you have a kicker who is so unstable that you decide to go for it on 4th downs, or simply punt in field goal range you're in trouble. We have to get away from that.

Marion Barber is simply too slow. Murray will be a great replacement. With our offense moving towards more of an explosive speed oriented attack. I've been calling for Marion Barber's release for the last two years and I think I've finally where I can say that its almost a sure thing. Not the guy he used to be.

Marc Colombo and Leonard Davis. These unathletic, aging, deteriorating linemen are simlpy killing us, romo, and the running back corps.

Roy Williams. I think his being on the roster limits Dez's exposure and I'm ready to move on. I think it's worth mention that I'm one of Roy's biggest supporters, but I can't stick with him at this point.

Bradie James and Keith Brooking are awful in coverage and are progress stoppers for Sean Lee and Bruce Carter. Our defense will always have holes with these two starting.

Jay Ratliff in the running game. He was getting pushed around last year. I just don't think he can keep up as a nose tackle, period point blank. People look at Jenkins and Spencer, but Ratliff didn't have a good year either.

Rat didnt have his greatest season but nobody on the defense played very well last season. Bradie James was coming off of his best season of his career 2 years ago. Id like to see how they play under Ryan before any changes are made

I wouldn't say Ratliff is holding us back, though. Maybe just change around the rotation and/or put him at DE, of all things.

Bradie James, Keith Brooking, Anthony Spencer.

Also, the RB and S positions are wack.

I agree with all on your list except for Rat. I know Rat underacheived last season but I think Ryan will help him bounce back this yr.

Rat is playing out of position.. put him at DE. No way he's holding this team back though. Guy can ball.

James is NOT holding this team back. So sick of hearing this tbh..

Buehler.. it was his first year doing the kicking. Give him time. He got better as the year went on with his accuracy. I think he'll keep improving. He has incredible potential.

Even more reason I think it will be a HUGE mistake if we don't bring Spears back. 34 DEs need to do 1 think hold up blockers and be great run players(Look no further then the Steelers, Smith and Kessel)
One of the man reasons our run D went in the crapper was bc of the Spears missing games. The guy was basically hurt all year.

Now Igor on the other hand, that's a guy that needs to be replaced he bringings nothing to the table.

Don't just read names, that's exactly what I said. He shouldn't be a nose tackle. Has he been successful getting after the QB at that position? Sure he has had some, but he has also been owned in the running game.

I did mention Leonard Davis... you didn't read this did you?

I said that Brooking and James are progress stoppers. Carter hasn't played yet, but he will be behind them. Thus the definition progress stopper.

Ratliff is in no way holding this team back. Thats a ridiculous statement. Hes probably not best suited for NT, but hes still best at that position as this roster is currently constructed. Who is better against the run that can play NT on this roster.

Bradie James is also not holding this team back. Are there better MLB's? Sure, but that doesnt mean James is holding us back. Hes a more than suitable MLB in this defense.

Im also not ready to give up on Davis. He was bad at times last year, but he played at a very high level the previous 2 years. I think he deserves another look this year before we dump him. His leash should be short though for sure.

Annnnddd...Roy Williams doesnt hold this team back either. Since when is having 3 WR's a bad thing? Roy is a overpaid for sure, but hes a plus on this offense because hes still a very talented WR. Dez will be fine as long as he runs his routes and gets open. Thats all there is to it.

Rat at DE will be pretty damn good. (if it happens..)

James isn't a progress stopper. Carter will take a year or two and get quality snaps and learn behind Bradie before taking over the starting role. James is still a very good starting LB for us though. Brooking unfortunately is about done. I love the guy, but he's just getting old. Hope he stays around to help coach though, he'd be invaluable in that role.

Are we sure about that?

It isn't difficult to argue that Jay is in the top 5 pass rushing interior linemen. Unfortunately, it's also not difficult to argue that he's far, far below average in run defense. Sometimes those two characteristics are indicative of what Jay is being asked to do - penetrate and sometimes you're going to be taken out of a running play. Still, we are very vulnerable to runs up the middle because of Jay's skill set or how he is being used.

I don't know that getting someone else in there helps if we keep a scheme that asks that player to penetrate, and likewise I'm not sure you get the same level of production out of Rat at 34 DE. He's on record saying he's less comfortable there.

But yes, as another poster pointed out, Josh Brent was far more effective in run defense than Ratliff in 2010. It wasn't really that close, either.

Jay's still one of the top 5 or 6 players on this team. Just need to think about how we use him.

Thats why i was hoping to draft a NT. Perhaps a young Fergenson type. Does anyone think Brent can play on early downs, so we can move Ratliff out on the edge more.?

Average kickers will now be able to put it into the end-zone on KO's, this diminishes Buehler's relative value even more IMO. We could have won a game or two more with an average kicker last year - no reason to continue with this failed experiment any longer. :banghead:
