Nicely done.

I like to look 2 years ahead at each unit.

QB: I would rather look ahead and have a QB that sits on the bench for 1-3 years and learns before he becomes the starter than have a rookie starting at QB. I just don't know how long Romo's back will hold up. I tend to think we could get 2 more seasons out of Romo, but it's really iffy and we'll need to look to find somebody here. I would like to find a legit 1st round talent, but don't want to give away the 2015 season either. So I would like to see a possible way to trade up and grab 2 late 1st rounders, maybe give away a 3rd round pick and get that QB and a 1st round pick at either DE, CB or RT.

RB: I'm not too worried about this group, even with Murray needing a new contract. I think he's the guy we could possibly franchise since RB's salaries are not what they once were. And I hate to say it, but I like what Randle brings to the table. We also have Ryan Williams. I would re-sign Dunbar, I don't think he'll go for much since he doesn't have much in the way of return skills and is a questionable blitz pickup guy.

WR: I think Dez is going to be re-signed anyway. If not, he can be given the franchise tag. I think Beasley is a must to re-sign. He's the only guy on the team that can effectively run pivot routes, he's young and hasn't gotten hurt. He can even fill in on returns. Williams' deal will be up in 2 years and Harris I don't think will cost much. I think a lot of this depends on Street's progress as Bryant is clearly our #1 WR for the future. If we like Street's progress, then we may stay put at WR. If not, then we may need to consider drafting a WR in the 3-5th round.

TE: I hate to say it, but I can see us drafting here, again. I want Witten to stay. I still think he's a great TE. He isn't Jimmy Graham when it comes to catching the ball, but he's still a very good receiver of the ball that moves the chains and his blocking is really excellent. Combine the 2 and you cause problems for the defense because they don't know if you're running or throwing the ball and they have to protect against both.

But, I don't know what he'll have in the tank after 2016. And Escobar and Hanna's contracts will run out. I really like what I've seen from both this year. It's certainly progress. But, I tend to think there are bigger holes to fill than TE in 2-years for right now.

OT: My issue with cutting Free is I wonder what he would go for. I'm also not a huge fan of Parnell (pretty good backup, flawed as a starter). I wouldn't have a problem with us drafting a RT. Keep the strength of the team going.

OG: I think we re-sign Leary and I don't think he goes for a lot. I do believe that our struggles with finding guards was partially due to poor coaching, injuries and bad centers. I think as long as Callahan and Frederick are around, we should be pretty much set at guard and should be able to reasonably find quality starters.

DE: It's too bad because Spencer has really stepped up his game. I would like to see if we can keep him at an affordable price. The rest of the guys are JAGs outside of Lawrence. I think the best tact is to find a draft pick if he's available.

DT: We will probably get rid of Melton. I wonder what they'll do with McClain as sometimes he shows flashes and he is getting back to a 4-3 scheme coming from a 3-4 scheme. Crawford is looking like the player that we need to plan for his next big contract.

OLB: I think the OLB's will be dependent on re-signing McClain. Personally, I think if McClain does come back we need to keep him at the MIKE and move Lee around. Lee is too unreliable to be the quarterback of the defense. And I really question how well Lee will perform at the WILL or SAM. Hitchens is here to stay. It will be interesting to see what happens to Carter and Durant.

MLB: I'm guessing we re-sign McClain.

CB: Carr will be gone. We need to keep Moore. He's a solid corner at a reasonable price. Scandrick will be back. We essentially need to find somebody about as good as Carr but for a smaller deal. I think it's do-able since Carr isn't exactly a great zone corner. We will probably keep Claiborne around to see if we can get anything from him. The big key will be the development of Patmon. If he develops well, then we can possibly find that replacement for Carr without relying on Claiborne. And then after 2015 I would think Scandrick's status with the team will be questionable and we will probably have Patmon and Moore as our 2 main corners.

So, we will need to address this position in the draft and probably FA as well. I just hope that the organization's attitude has changed towards corners and they'll be more into being patient with corners in the draft instead of over-valuing them.

S: Both are scheduled to stay, but the issue here is if 1 of them gets injured as we still have Heath and Spillman behind them. The other thing is that more defenses are going to 3 safety personnel to stop the TE's. So, if an Eric Reid type is there waiting in the 1st round and there is a considerable drop-off at the other players, I wouldn't have an issue taking a safety there.

Maxx Williams TE

I like Maxx Williams but would think drafting a TE high means we are done with Witten and I'm not ready to accept that yet.

I also like Penn State's Jesse James, who is considering entering the draft.
