I know alot of people have strong feelings about this subject either way.
Here is the way I see it.....
1) This year, there will be two 10-6 teams that do NOT make the playoffs. The Cowboys and Chiefs.
2) The league will suffer long term if this becomes a trend. If teams with really good winning records are left out in the cold year after year, the fans will eventually lose interest half way through the season, figuring that all hope is lost, thus creating a ton of meaningless games. We all know how much fun meaningless games are.
3) It makes perfectly good sense to expand the field by just 2 teams. It would create super wildcard weekends, which the NFL would love, and a bigger viewing audience clamoring for more "BIG" games.
4) I personally feel that the run up to the SuperBowl would be enhanced, by allowing in teams that could really do damage to otherwise overwhelming favorites. For instance... If the Cowboys and Cheifs had gotten in this year,.. who would want to play them the first weekend? Instead we are left to watch Tampa Bay destroy an injury riddled Commanders team.
I vote that the NFL seriously consider expanding the playoff field to 2 more teams. It would do far more good than harm.
