Had it been a first down, we could have taken a knee forced them to use their last timeout, taken a knee again, and then kicked a FG.

How about scoring a freaking TD, and ending the game?

You are just trying to deflect, simple as that. You know you are wrong so you are trying to prove your point by claiming we were all scared of a winning FG the other way. That doesn't prove anything. Until the game says 0:00, there is always a risk of a loss, hell even under your bs scenario, we could have gone for the TD, been up by five or six, and still lost on a TD. I would have been scared under either scenario so your point is meaningless.

You're right...I hated some of Parcells game stradegy of playing not to lose! I hated the fact that he hated to pile it on against other coaches because it was "bad sportsmanship" or some crap like that.

Same with the players under him. He would not let them talk smack to other teams because it was "bad sportsmanship". But, I guess he would not mind if other teams constantly talked smack to the Cowboys, huh? No wonder they were not having much fun...

I'm glad Parcells was here, but I have to admit, and I have said it more than once...I hated his game plans! Play not to lose? WTH?

Just show me where I said anything about not trying the FG we did try...all of my comments have been directed at him saying HAD THE FD TO WITTEN STOOD, HE'D HAVE WIMPED OUT AND PLAYED FOR ANOTHER FG.

You're the only one I've seen that says that and I totally agree. I told my buddies that night we should go for the TD. I just felt that even if we made the FG there was to much time on the clock for our consevative prevent d to stop them from making a FG.

that's the difference in having confidence in your squad because they are pretty good, and not having that confidence because your squad isn't as good as it should be, I don't remember the last time I felt comfortable in the ability of our team to get it done when it counts

it's obvious Parcells never felt comfortable turning our players loose, it must have been because they weren't showing that they could handle everything in practice

Maybe the squad felt that they did not have confidence because Parcells was always degrading them in some way or the other? Maybe they were playing "too stiff" because they did not want the wrath of Parcells?

It's like anything in life...if you are good at something but someone is always putting you down, you lose confidence in yourself. I think this is a part of what might have happened to the team during the last part of the season. They just got tired of "walking on egg shells"...
