BREAK A TIE FOR THE WILD-CARD TEAM
If it is necessary to break ties to determine the two Wild-Card clubs from each conference, the following steps will be taken.

  1. If the tied clubs are from the same division, apply division tie breaker.
  2. If the tied clubs are from different divisions, apply the following steps.
Two Clubs
  1. Head-to-head, if applicable.
  2. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
  3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
  4. Strength of victory.
  5. Strength of schedule.
  6. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
  7. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
  8. Best net points in conference games.
  9. Best net points in all games.
  10. Best net touchdowns in all games.
  11. Coin toss.
Three or More Clubs
(Note: If two clubs remain tied after third or other clubs are eliminated, tie breaker reverts to step 1 of applicable two-club format.)

  1. Apply division tie breaker to eliminate all but the highest ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. The original seeding within a division upon application of the division tie breaker remains the same for all subsequent applications of the procedure that are necessary to identify the two Wild-Card participants.
  2. Head-to-head sweep. (Applicable only if one club has defeated each of the others or if one club has lost to each of the others.)
  3. Best won-lost-tied percentage in games played within the conference.
  4. Best won-lost-tied percentage in common games, minimum of four.
  5. Strength of victory.
  6. Strength of schedule.
  7. Best combined ranking among conference teams in points scored and points allowed.
  8. Best combined ranking among all teams in points scored and points allowed.
  9. Best net points in conference games.
  10. Best net points in all games.
  11. Best net touchdowns in all games.
  12. Coin toss
When the first Wild-Card team has been identified, the procedure is repeated to name the second Wild-Card, i.e., eliminate all but the highest-ranked club in each division prior to proceeding to step 2. In situations where three or more teams from the same division are involved in the procedure, the original seeding of the teams remains the same for subsequent applications of the tie breaker if the top-ranked team in that division qualifies for a Wild-Card berth.

Right now the Cowboys are in a three way tie with Seattle and Detroit for a wildcard. The three way tie is applied and Seattle is in and Dallas out.

So head to head does not matter at all? I know three clubs are tied. But 2 of those teams are fighting for one spot.

Right now we are out

It probably behuves us to root for philly against Seattle...believe it or not...

We need Seattle to lose 2 more games or we probably aren't getting in...via the wild card at least

Welp..... its a four game season now boys! This team says it is different..... let them show us. In the meantime I will enjoy the rest of the holiday weekend. And see who shows up to play next Thursday.
Whatever the direction this team takes it could help to decide who will be with the team next year.

Division race isn't over either. But obviously philly has to lose at home to us and on the road vs was or Nyg for that to be possible...via a tiebreaker at least

This team won't make the playoffs. I knew we were toast when I saw players laughing on the sideline after the Beasley fumble.

At least he wasn't laughing. I would like to think that getting embarrassed at "home" on national TV (once again) would energize the team for the rest of the season. If we crater the rest of the way I think that Jerry may hesitate to extend JG...

I would like to know what was going on in Spencer's mind while he was laughing it up. The camera caught him.

If you think the Cowboys are going to lose to the Eagles again in two weeks then you want the Eagles to beat Seattle.

I think we lose to the Eagles and Colts and beat the Bears and Skins. 10-6 and no playoffs unless Detroit or Seattle finishes with a worse record.

Yeah, I saw that. Could have been something innocuous (e.g., maybe an Eagles' player said something stupid). Regardless, what we saw on the field was downright depressing...

Because all the teams that are tied right now don't play each other this year. We'd need Detroit to fall out of the tie in order for head-to-head to apply.

The Lions have a cake schedule up until the final game against GB.

My prediction is the Lions and Packers both finish the season 11-5 with the Packers only loss this Sunday to the Patriots and the Lions only loss to GB in week 17.

Where it gets REALLY interesting for the Cowboys is the NFC West where you have Arizona at 9-2, Seahawks at 8-4, and 49ers at 7-5.

IMHO one of the wildcards will come from the NFC North. That leaves a bunch of good teams fighting for the last WC (assuming the Cowboys don't win the divison). Its a tough year in the NFC.

This is how I see it playing out as well.
