Been watching some of the Playoffs and man, we beat Carolina, we had a bunch of chances to beat Seattle. We dominated Washingon in Game one (and admittedly were dominated by them in Game 2, but they were on a roll and we struggled down stretch with a few big injuries), we beat the Giants once and were in the 2nd game as well.

Watching the NFC teams play, I really feel this team is close to being a contender at least in the National Conference. I think the top 4-5 AFC are superior to any in NFC, although Seattle, if Alexander is playing at top of his game, might be close.

That being said, we had many chances to beat Denver as well.

I think the team is another good offseason away from a playoff win or two. It concerns me that Glover, Ellis, and Larry Allen are all tough choices in the offseason though as they are at least ProBowl Level or at least very proven Vets that would be large holes to fill should we let one or more go because of age, potentially declining performance/unideal fit, and large Cap Prices.

Another thing that struck me today. Payton Manning without good protection from his Oline looks like a younger Drew Bledsoe (with maybe slightly fewer mistakes). Oline protection remains the key.

Oh and one more thing! Why the Heck can't we Blitz like Pittsburgh blitzes. Our Blitzes are so lame, predictable, slow to develop, and unintimidating in comparrisson, even when we bring 2 or 3 more guys. I still feel, that despite all the good things Zim does and how all the "experts" suggest about how good he coaches, if we could get our talented players some really good and creative and tough-to-defend blitz schemes our defense would be top 5 all the time.

Just some things that have struck me watching the playoffs.

We lost to Oakland and the Lambs. We pulled it out of our *** against Philly, KC, and San Diego. We lost 4 of 6 in November and December.......sounds like playoff material to me.

[/sarcasm]

have a nice day, nors.

Hey I know I might be Stereotyping myself by admitting posting it, but we did have this same thread already. I posted mine 8 minutes before Nors did, go check. Not that that means anything either hehe.

Point is (and I agree with the Horseshoes and Handgrenades and all the "woah us, we aren't good enough to make playoffs etc), but despite all that, the Cowboys team IS close. That's all it said. 2-3 bad player moves and 4 bad injuries and we might be 5-11 again, but I think the direction the team is headed is far more exciting (realistically IMHO for once) than any time in last 6 years.

I think we are much closer to Carolina and Seattle than we are to the 49ers who are going through what the Cowboys did for the last 2 years, just 3-4 years after the Cowboys did. The 9ers hit cap hell, they didn't have lots of early draft picks because of regular good records, etc etc.

Yeah yeah, go back to stating your incredible cliche's like if "If's and But's were Candies and Nuts it would be Christmas every day.

These boards sure have a ton of people who slag everyone elses posts but don't have big enough brass ones to put out an opinion of their own to be worked over. Buncha politicians some of ya. All critique yet no offered input or solution of your own. Sheesh! (by the way this rant also applies to the people that insinuated that I was a Bledsoe lover in another post by suggesting rookies are likely to struggle in their first playoff appearances).

Didn't need the playoffs to know that.

When we played Cowboy football we were pretty good this year. When he didn't, not so well.

I hear what you are saying Big Dog Cowboy, but there were years (particularly the last 5 or so) where the team didn't make the playoffs and I was thinking that the team wasn't that far off.....

and then I watched the playoff games and realized there was no way the team could elevate it's play to the same level others were doing so during their playoff games. This year, I don't feel that way at all, at least so far as the NFC is concerned.

Also, I felt we were very competitive with the teams that made the playoffs this year, meaning 5 or 6 teams, not just 1 or 2. So it struck me as more realistic or honest this year as oppossed to the wishful thinking of prior years.

BTW are you BDC from the old Cowboys forum boards that moved about 5 months ago (the alleged problem with the "Rat")?

That would be correct. Specifically, it was the sportsonly forum. I remember you very well.
