I don't know, to me a bye is a playoff win. If your regular season was good enough that you get to sit home home while 8 other teams have to battle on the field to advance to the next weekend where you sit waiting that IS playoff success (for that weekend). So I would be interested in seeing this same stat here adjusted for playoff wins + byes. It could still be Garrett, I dont know.

When Garrett was gone from Dallas he stepped into a real mess as OC under Judge Joe in New Yawk . That I believe really effected his chances of becoming a HC again in the NFL . The Bermuda Triangle of Coaching , the “ Meadowlands “ …

I’m sure everyone guessed Jason Garrett right? Yep, since 1996, the last year Barry Switzer won a playoff game in Dallas, Jason Garrett has the most playoff wins here as a head coach with TWO!

Here’s a little perspective: The Dallas Cowboys all time playoff record is 36-31, which even after our playoff win drought of the last three decades, we remain 5th in NFL playoff wins behind the niners, packers, patriots and steelers.

Tom Landry was 20-16 in the playoffs in his 29 years as Cowboys HC. In the 35 years of the Jerry Jones era, the Cowboys playoff record is 16-15. Jimmy and Barry Switzer won 12 of those playoff wins in the Jerry era in the first 7 years of Jerry’s ownership. Let that marinate.

In the 35 years Jerry Jones has owned the Dallas Cowboys he has hired 8 head coaches. I would argue only three of them - Jimmy Johnson, Bill Parcells and maybe Mike McCarthy would ever be considered in the top echelon of NFL head coaching talent. In fact of those 3, only Jimmy won more than one playoff game here in Dallas.

Cowboys head coaches just don’t win many playoff games here since 1996. Our playoff record with the six head coaches who followed Barry Switzer is 4-10.

Jimmy was 9-4 in the playoffs as a HC, was 7-1 in the playoffs here, 2-3 in Miami. Parcells was 11-8 in the playoffs, but was 0-2 in Dallas. McCarthy is 11-11 in the playoffs, but he’s 1-3 here. I realize Barry Switzer had a 5-2 playoff record here but by the time he was HC here, he was at the end of his career and no other NFL team would have hired him.

So when we as Cowboys fans consider who Jerry Jones hires as his next HC, we must somehow pray that coach is better than Jason Garrett who of all the HCs Jerry has hired since 1996, Garrett has the most playoff wins here with a whopping TWO.
Normalize playoff wins by years coaching, which seems proper, and Wade is the winner.
And Wade did improve the defense.

Playoff wins + byes *per year*.

Garret was given forever.
Per year, Wade wins on wins/year or wins+byes/year.

That's the root problem right there. Jerry and his coaches.
Since Jimmy left, Jerry only hires coaches he can control.

Everything comes from this, the helicopter, tours during practices, owner press conferences, diva players going straight to the owner.

A strong coach wouldn't allow any of it.

Thats the perfect word for this organization.

I mentioned Garrett had more success than the last few Cowboys HC’s, however he was given more years.
The fact that Garrett has won more playoff games than any coach here since Barry left is appalling.

He also had over twice the time than any head coach since 1996.

Jason Garrett 10 years
Parcells 4 years
Wade 4 years
McCarthy 4 years
Campo 3 years
Gailey 2 years
Cowboys have had the worst coaches in football the past 30 years

Perhaps it's just me, but when I hear the name Tom Landry, I have NEVER associated it with the Cowboys under Jerry Jones.

The BEST thing that ever happened to Jerry Jones was picking Jimmy Johnson as his first head coach.

Show you how old I am, am curious how accurate North Dallas 40 was of the team of that era. The irony is although two different styles and attitudes in head coaches, I can't help but think that Jimmy Johnson commanded as much respect as Tom Landry did on the field.

That said, when you're 19 and piloting a B-17 at the end of WW2, you're going to get respect when you get out.
It is not clear what would have transpired if Bum Bright would not have made firing Landry a condition of Jerry buying the team. The team lacked talent but always played hard for Landry. I often wonder what would have happened if Jerry kept Landry and let Landry cultivate Aikman.

We will never know. But it's pretty clear that Jimmy was the right coach at the right time.

Wasted decade with Garrett, thats why I would rather keep McCarthy, the next HC can be worse
It’s been a waste with McCarthy. The team continues to spin its wheels. There’s been poor game management and we’re one of the league leaders in penalties. After 5 years it’s time to move on and try someone else. Things aren’t likely to change until the Joneses change. Good luck with that.

The only stat that matters about playoff history, is getting another chance to win in front of you. Do that and you’ll stick around. Don’t? And you’re gone. We’ve had many teams good enough to reach the big dance since 1996, but just unable to put it together on game day. The team we see in front of us today isn’t going anywhere. It needs a total overhaul and senile head management doesn’t seem to recognize that fact

Jerry IS the head coach

His legacy will forever be known as THE MAN WHO DESTROYED THE ONCE GREAT DALLAS COWBOYS
