Playoffs will determine fate of coaching staff

Guys I really believe that the playoffs will determine the fate of this coaching staff. After listening to Jerry's comments since the game, he wants blood if this team folds in the playoffs. I see 2 scenarios.

1. If we get beat in the 1st round, probably by Seattle, then Tuna, Zimmy, Haley, and all the other scrubs will be shown the door like sacrafical lambs. Jerry has spent millions upgrading the team, especially defense, and he is going to be pissed royally with a 1 and done situation. I would expect the axe to start falling the very next day if we are eliminated.

2. We beat Seattle and advance to the 2nd round. I think this scenario might buy Tuna another year. Zimmy is probably gone regardless, but I think at least 1 playoff win would buy Tuna another year, but with new assistant coaches. If Tuna gets pisssed and wants to keep his lackies like Zimmy, then he will be shown the door as well.

Thats Beast take on it.

I have to tell you Beast, I have had a feeling that BP is gone regardless, unless he gets to the Championship game. Just too many drafting mistakes (Rogers and Peterman, Jones instead of Jackson, etc.) a couple of 5-11 seasons, and seemingly can't do better than 10-6, if we do that this year; I think Jerry wants results and has lost faith that BP can turn it around...

When did we have a couple 5-11 seasons under Parcells?

That's right. None. The closest was a 6-10 finish in 2004.

But let's not let facts get in the way of a good theory, ok?

I stand corrected Winward. Do you think there is a significant difference between 5-11 and 6-10?....

nope but it is worth noting we had some 5-11's pre-Parcells.

prolly why that number was stuck in your head.

Jerry is not going on a firing frenzy. He has been here too long and that is not at all his style. He likes the status quo with small changes not blowing things up. Especially not blowing up a damn playoff team. He was frustrated after the game like we all were but decisions arent made under that frustration.

The only reason we should fire Parcells is if we have his replacement ready to go. Fire Zimmer? Fine if we can get someone very proven in here to run the defense but promoting a scrub from within? Forget that nonsense.

Tell me(not directed at any one person but a general statement) the ultimate solution to problems not the first step with no afterthought and I am good.

Thankfully he does not drink any more so decisions are not being made under the influence. :lmao2:

Considering we went 5-11 for three straight years before Parcells got here and we've only had one losing season (6-10) since he's been here, then yes, I would say that is a significant difference.

I believe Mister Zimmer's contract expires this year, correct?

If so he technically wouldn't be "fired".

I see nothing he has done this season to justify a new contract. The defense has underachieved with a major talent infusion. For years, the excuse was poor talent. I think the talent is good enough. So why would he earn a new contract?

4 years 2 playoff appearances yeah I see no improvement from where we have been. :laugh2: Like most I'm frustrated with how things have gone as of late but I do see this team as one who is heading in the right direction it may not be happening as fast as some would like but I do think we are a better team because of Parcells.

Parcells' draft record here is on par with anyone's in the league over the past several seasons, save perhaps SD. Plus he gets a lot of bonus points for pick ups like Romo, Crayton and Columbo.

Talent acquisition hasn't been a problem. Game days have been a problem.

our record the past 4 years is a reflection of the Cowboys cap situation, full complimentry of high draft picks and no OLD STARS trying to hang on... and health!!! No the Coaches!!!

I admit, Coaching was in 03... now its lets see what we can do with JERRYs money and lets see if I can find the next Troy Brown and Dave Meggett!!!

jerry has already said he wants bill back next year. bill may not want to come back but jerry is not going to fire bill. zimmer does'nt have a contract for next year so i suspect he will be gone but i don't think the playoffs will affect jerry's thinking on bill as much as it might on a few players

Who would be Bill's replacement? Lets hope someone like Romeo can shake free from his coaching job and we can hire him to replace Zim.

I think there are several around the league that would be complete upgrades. He is not so good that we could not grab a number of hungry assistants from several teams and notice a considerable difference.

Zimmer has been around so long we are used to his mediocrity.

We might be amazed what a little change can do.

I will say this, there is nothing he brings to the table I can say is a complete strength and we need to keep him because of it.

We don't blitz well. We aren't aggressive. We aren't well-prepared. And we do not always execute.

If there was one thing I could point to, I might feel the same as you. I know I cannot.

I don't think Zimmer is indispensable. Add to that that his contract is up, and I don't see why we wouldn't try to upgrade this offseason. If Romeo Crennel is fired, then maybe we want to take a look at him. Maybe a Dick LeBeau or perhaps a young assistant off New England or somebody.

I can see the 1st scenario easily, especially if we play un-inspired, lifeless ball again like the eagirls game. If we do show poorly, I would be royally pissed if Parcells is not fired in the post game interview.

I agree.... Jerry has said as much.... Sadly, this young team has a load of questions attached to it - who would've thunk it - considering tuna's an *ahem* "HOF coach"
