It depends on what kind of picture quality you want to play your games and movies with the Playstation 3 console:
standard definition or
high definition. Every console comes standard with an AV cable. In other words, you do not have to purchase anything extra to play games or movies in
standard definition. If that is your choice, the answer would be no.
If you wish to view your games or movies in
high definition, but already own HDMI cable or AV component cables made specifically for the PS3 console, the answer would be no. In that case, you would already possess the cable necessary.
If you do not own either of those, but still wish to watch your games or movies in high definition, the answer would be yes. However, the next question would be, "How much to you wish to spend?" since you do not have to shell out 19 bucks for high definition cable.
