What the ramifications will be for free agents and draftees? Let's take TO as a model. He gets released today, as anticipated, and the bidding begins. What will his contract look like?

Is it likely that a one year contract is all TO, or any FA, can expect? With the cap in place this year, but potentially not next year, what are the chances of a small salary this year with a promise of huge increase next? Would this be voided if a CBA is reached?

Who would Reggie Bush sign a multi-year contract knowing that he could make more if he signed a one year contract?

Does anyone rreally have a reasonable understanding of what the implications will be for this year?

The 30% rule applies. You pay a player for this year and next year in 07 his contract can only increase by 30%. Don't know if that holds true in 08 but of course in 08 there won't be a draft either (that's what alarms me the most). Also you can only prorate a player's contract over 4 years even if the life of the contract is for 5 years or more.
