Such an odd season thus far. And the fan base has been the weirdest part of it all.

The back-and-forth hot and cold reactions from week to week isn't unusual for Cowboys fans, but the overreactions this season are particularly extreme. Most bipolar season I can remember.

This team hasn't beaten a good team yet, and it took overtime against the Giants and a complete loss of the Washington receiving corps to log two of those wins. The best game thus far was an unexpected tie. At best, this is a 7-win team that can't stop anybody or move the ball effectively against good defenses.

It's not that there haven't been positives, because there have been, but nothing that suggests real contention. Pretend as we might.

The Bills, Lions, Chiefs, Broncos, Colts, etc, would beat this team by 20+ with ease. The Eagles and Packers would, too, now because defenses typically are the slowest to settle in each season. (The Eagles loss their best defensive player before the game even started.)

This team is rebuilding. Always was. Sell any player that won't be around when the real plan to contend is geared for. This team needs two years worth of bevies of draft picks (that the coaches should have no say in) and a handful of key free agent acquisitions. Shotty is fine, get a new DC, but keep both out of the draft room. Let McClay go it alone.

That and some good fortune might allow this team to relevant again in a couple of seasons as an actual Contender.

This season was always a evaluation season the moment they moved parsons, Give shotty 2 more drafts/offseason to build the roster and actually let him have a say in the coordinators on the defensive side. Offense will be ok but there needs to be a realistic 2 year plan to build this defense while we have dak.

Maybe now Jerry will rebuild, but it never was the plan.

You don't sign your veteran QB who lost all those playoff games for you at 30 years old to highest paid contract in NFL when he's not even in the top tier of elite QBs. Most rebuilding teams start over at QB.

If the goal is to get as much possible value as you can for a star player (e.g. Herschel Walker), you don't wait until you're desperate to trade for Micah Parsons.

The time to tear it up was after that Green Bay playoff flop. Perfect timing for everything from new coaching staff, to new contracts, to trading away cap hits and being able to withstand it.

The truth is these guys don't have a long-term plan. Jerry calls the shots, his son and McClay try to make do with daddy running the show.

Think Parcells in his 3rd year when he said "enough is enough" and rebuilt the entire team his way. THAT was a rebuild. Or Jimmy Johnson in 89 obviously -- trading Herschel, drafting QB at #1 overall, trading for as many picks as possible, cutting most of the vets, etc..

This season was never going to be anything other than evaluating young talent, going through the rebuild and getting ready for the important offseason of 2026...anyone that thought this team had or has any shot to compete is dilisusional.

Im fine with this being a throw away year record wise as long as they build the young guys experience and then get a decent spot in the draft, setting up for a 2 to 3 year window.

Our best game was against an Iggles team who were not only missing their best player on D, but also an Iggles team that came into the season off a Super Bowl win and was lacking identity. I said 2 weeks ago that the Iggles are back, and it sure looks like they are, despite some likely locker room going on with their WR1. It makes me sick to see teams continually succeed despiate the challenges/issues it has, and here we are getting all goofy because we beat bad football teams. Could be worse, being a Bungles fan I suppose, but...........this season just sums up 30 years of Cowboys football, and I wouldn't be shocked to see us clobber Zona next week

The inactivity after that Green Bay loss was the most demoralizing moment ever in my 50 years as a Cowboys fan. It was the moment I really realized that Jerry legitimately does not care if we ever win a Super Bowl again.

Totally agree, my stance is always that you have to take this team ONE GAME at a time, just because they had a win means nothing, hell we could win 3 in a row wouldn't make me happy because somewhere we're going to lay an egg. Anyways the top teams are there for a reason. Just look at Philly, when have you seen them lose to teams they shouldn't lose to, when do you see them give up and not at least hang close in games? We dont' have that built in our DNA, once our country club isn't right, everything is over lol

Also, it should be noted the Commanders lost Jayden Daniels to injury shortly after the start of the second half.

All I agree with, except Schotty… he ain’t the one. There’s a reason he has never been even sniffed on as a HC in this league. Even as an OC I question his play calling sometimes. Need a real HC with no training wheels attached. Same for a GM.

how do you rebuild with a team that isn't good
This is a great question actually. Usually you have something to build around. Outside of two great receivers, one who probably leaves in FA what do we have as far as bones? Dak was never it and hes getting older by the day. This franchise is on the cusp of being completely irrelevant for a decade.
