I know this belongs elsewhere, but i was hoping i could get some answeres here first.

OK now i've had this laptop since chirstmas, and now when i turn on my lap top, there is a vertical green line on the screen, and today, it has like grey horizontal lines, falshing accross my screen. Is there any way to fix this without sending it in. BTW its a Dell computer.

Holy Cow! I've heard of this before but never met anyone that this happened to. First the green vertical line then all the grey horizonal lines. It's called Hyper-text infusion and it is emmiting and diode sensor flux to the cmos and bios.

First thing you have to do is submerge it in water for 10 minutes then set it on the back porch because you don't want that thing in the house when it blows. Then get yourself to Circut City for a new lap top.

:D But don't go by me. I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express last night!

I just had to buy a new LCD screen insert for my wife's Dell laptop. The cost was about $230 and was fairly easy to install. Good luck if, indeed, the LCD needs replacing.

edit: The prob with my wife's scree was that it looked like a peice of paper folded over, almost exactly like my sig pic below. Half the screen was gray and the other half was normal including icons and background.

I have a friend that works at a Dell repair shop here in town. If you want, I'll stop tomorrow and ask him, before sending it anywhere.

Meanwhile, stay off those naughty sites...:D

I didn't stay at a Holiday Inn express, but I'm good at pretending to look smart so here goes:

Does your lines go across once Windows start loading (I.E. When you see Microsoft XP Home/Pro)? If so it could be an operating system problem (Have no clue what would cause it but that would be my guess). If the lines start as soon as power comes on than most likely it's hardware...in which case, check into a Holiday Inn and just wing it!

If they only come up when Windows loads more in likely the video driver is corrupted or the wrong driver.
