Poe is hot garbage

I can't believe some are hoping the Boys will draft this guy. Garrett said Poe's tape doesn't lie. He was right on. Brockers would be a great pick if he lasts to 14. Anyways, you Poe fans can watch the tape.
I have never been a Poe fan and agree, he is a wasted 1st round pick

I disagree on Brockers, he would also be a waste at 14

They both have bad "tape", I don't want either one at 14 but if I have to pick, I pick the guy with athletic upside.

Poe is overrated, Brockers is not. Kid is going to be VERY good.

Poe was misused and virtually by himself on the Memphis d-line. Put him on lsu and he would out shine Brockers in every way. A kid with that much size and athleticism to go along with his work ethic isn't going to fail.

Garrett: At Some Point Game Tape Wins Out
Posted by nickeatman at 4/25/2012 5:12 PM CDT on dallascowboys.com
Not sure when or where the term “workout warrior” developed but we hear the term every year around March and April, leading up to the draft.

It’s the guy who wasn’t that high on the initial draft boards, mainly because his three or four years of college tape didn’t make anyone drool. Yet, his workout at the combine and/or his college Pro Day has changed some opinions.

Obviously, the best example of that this year is Memphis defensive tackle Dontari Poe, who wowed the teams at the combine with his 4.8 time in the 40-yard dash and bench-pressing a combine-best 44 reps of 225 pounds.

Speaking generically about all players on, head coach Jason Garrett said Wednesday that “workout warriors” are intriguing but that can be deceiving. And ultimately, the game tape is what matters the most.

“Sure he ran fast or he is really strong or this and that . . . but what does the film look like,” Garrett said. “Ultimately you’re evaluating football players. The guys that I’ve been around and we’ve evaluated together . . . we’ve relied on the tape. Now sometimes a workout can help you – but it can be good and bad. Sometimes you find a good player who didn’t run that fast. So it goes both ways. Ultimately, you’ve got to go back to the tape.”

You can see glimpses of the ridiculous athleticism in the video. He utilized an effective spin move a few times IIRC. 340 pound lineman should not be able to do that.

That's what I thought.

He was not specifically talking about Poe but rather "workout warriors" in general.

Personally, I like the Poe tape much better than this tape of Brockers...

At least Poe doesn't get blown up every down like Brockers. He holds his ground. Did he make a lot of plays in that vid? No, but again, he's not getting completely owned like Brockers did in the vid link I posted.

I see a lot to like in that same clip. There are too many that just can't see talent unless they actually see sacks. Leon Lett was not a big sack guy, he was just a freak that disrupted and dominated the line of scrimmage.

If this were Brockers' tape, we'd hear all about how the fact that he was double-teamed on 80% of the plays is evidence of his greatness.

Poe spent a lot of time in the backfield in that footage, played a lot of 3-4 DE, and showed a good spin move several times. He played a lot of snaps against a spread offense making quick throws, yet he played hard even late in the game with a two-score lead.

There's some bad stuff too. He doesn't look particularly nasty, and he doesn't seem to take full advantage of his size relative to the guys he's facing.

I think both Poe and Brockers have some potential to disappoint. They both need to improve in different areas. In that respect, one guy busted his butt to get ready for the combine and wowed everyone, and the other showed up out of shape and tested near the bottom of his group in many categories. Surely Garrett and company have tried to get information about each player's work ethic, and they'll weight it appropriately.
