Now that we've had a couple days for our heads to clear... what is your opinion of the "Parcell's Era" in Dallas?

Did he succeed?

Did he fail?

Or was it somewhere in between?

Please place your vote and give us an opinion...

He was successful.

In the next couple of years, I'm guessing it'll become quite clear that Parcells set the table for his successor's success.

Let's judge him by his own words................

You are what your record says you are.......34-32 record is slightly above average. Lesser named coaches get axed for this type of performance.

No matter how good you've been in the past, at some point you have to show you can still do it...................and he never showed he could still do it.

To me he failed. Some will argue that he left us in much better shape than when he go there, which I agree. But if he brought in all this talent, why was he not more successful.

One last thing, the arguments will commence shortly for or against. But as a long time fan, for 35 years or more, I expect much more from my Dallas Cowboys that 9-7 records and a one and out in the playoffs. We were spoiled by 20 straight winning seasons and being in the tournament year in and year out. We tuned in expecting to win, not hoping to win. Ten plus years of below average to slightly above average football is unacceptable as far as I am concerned.

I'm on that band-wagon...

If we go 11-5 next year, win the division and win a playoff game my opinion of the Parcells' era could change...

lil bit of both. he wasn't a total failure.

I agree, he could have surely done better. Made some calls differently. He wasn't a total bust though

Abject failure on the field but I will say that I think his name and the buzz it created played a role in the new stadium so from that aspect it wasn't a failure because it will help the Cowboys in the long run.

I voted that he was good.

A great team-builder whose coaching skills deteriorated before our eyes aand whose increasingly morbid depression wore his team down.

I was glad for him to come and I am glad he left. He left the team better than he found it and re-established a winning tradition with 3 out of his 4 years being winners.

Yeah, I was disappointed but I think the next few years will show that he did a good job of putting together a bunch of good players, even if he couldn't motivate them to succeed as a team.

He had my hopes up after the Quincy year, then I was a bit disappointed every year after that. I'm excited about what he has left us though. The team is fairly young and can only get better, with the right coaching staff.

it depends, did he do good in getting us to win postseason games? no

did he rebuild the team? yes

I wouldn't call it a total failure, just not a smashing success, about as good a job anyone could have done under the circumstance

He didn't bring us a championship or even close. That's unacceptable. There were times where I felt he was intentionally trying to sabotage the organization.

the answer I'd choose isnt up there

as a head of football operations/pseudo GM= pretty damn good...did a solid job rebuilding this roster...we have alot of good talent and look like we have a legit QB of the future too

as a head coach= not good...he was expected to win playoff games and make us a champion again...not be .500 and fail to win a postseason game or division title

That's a strange mixture of choices. I think he did a good job and was a good hire, but I also expected more and was therefore slightly disappointed.

I would vote for two of those options -- he did a good job, and he was a good hire, but he also was a slight disappointment. (So I didn't vote at all.)

We're far better off than we were before Parcells got here, but he didn't quite finish the job. It took us too long to find (hopefully) a quarterback, and our defensive transition didn't begin soon enough.

I guess I call it a push.

He was brought in to improve the team. He did

He was brought here to be better than average and have something to show for it. He brought no banners, no trophys, not even an award to put on a fireplace mantel. In the minds of fans thats a failure.

When your success is based on Championships and your a failure if you arent the next Landry or Johnson I guess you are almost destined to fail from the go, arent you?

I don't understand the "Dallas is better off now than when Parcells arrived" argument. Of course they are. Dallas wasn't in cap hell for any portion of Parcells tenure. Every team except Detroit that's in good cap shape improves their talent.

Let's look at the draft's during his tenure.

'03 Witten was a great pick pick and Newman was a great fall back pick when the player Parcells wanted (who ended up being something of a bust) wasn't there. James is a starter also.

'04 Jones is a starter and Crayton was a nice find but you can't forget Rogers, Peterman and Thorton busting.

'05 He didn't screw up by taking one of the two players that every site on the 'net said Dallas would take with Ware but the rest of the class really leaves something to be desired except for Barber. Spears is approaching bust status, Burnett can't crack the line up...

'06 I think it's too early to accurately guage this class.

Not exactly a dirty dozen draft history.

I won't even start on the free agent signings where Dallas has overpaid or missed badly more often than they've found success.

Hindsights always 20/20 but looking back, that's hardly what anyone would call "good" talent acquistion.

I voted he was a good hire......he did beef up the talent level.

I would have thought after 4years our OL would have been much better w/that I am very disappointed.
