POLL: STARTING RB - Barber or Jones

Is Jones a starting back? Barber deserves a chance to challenge for the job based on play. If Jones shows himself to be the better back then great but right now his play is inconsistent and needs to show a heck of a lot more. Barber runs behind the same line and he is the one that has given the offense the big spark in the second half of many games after slow starts in the 1st half of games by the Cowboys offense. I think many just want Barber to be given the chance to prove himself instead of being told he is incapable of becoming a starter with nothing to back that up

:hammer:

It seems a few are afraid if Barber is given that opportunity that JuJo won't get the PT he did before. Basically they're afraid to let them compete for fear of being wrong, nevermind that it would actually make the team BETTER if they were to compete.

Funny though, slowly but surely you're getting backed into your corner.

Tell me Burm, what's wrong with them competing for the job?

I don't dislike either man but given what I have seen out of Barber I think he has earned the right to compete for the job. If Jones wins it great but I think Barber deserves the opportunity instead of all this BS of well he can't do it without anything to back that up. As for breaking long ones, Emmitt Smith was a 4.5 runner who had his share of long TD for us. It is not about how fast a guy is, I'll take quickness and burst over flat speed because the fact is the 1st 15 yards are the critical yards in breaking the long runs, once you get past the LB your in open field and even a 4.5 guy can take it to the house.

In the NFL 28 yards but the only thing that stopped him was the goal line. Smith was not a speed guy and had many big runs, it is not about how fast a guy is after all this is not track it is football and Barber has enough speed to do the job what he does not have are the opportunities. Jones had 1 big run last year of 77 but he had many poor outings constantly leaving the offense is 2nd and long and 3rd long because he can't break a tackle and if you can't do that how many big runs will you get? In Jones case 5 runs over 20 for Barber 4 runs over 20 with half the carries that Jones got. If being a RB was all about Speed Emmitt Smith would not have done jack but the truth is it is not all about speed.

Look, I really could care less who wins the job. I just want the better one to start.

This argument though is pretty sad, considering you're basing it off of one play. Barber has had a higher YPC, and he's just taken control of games. Jones has been a good/OK starter for us, but I'm afraid he just hasn't taken control of games for us.

JJ/MB tandem, keep it as is. However, with the emphasis on JJ the starter and use him more to his abilities, get him into the game a little more. The more he's in the flow of the game, the better I think he will be. Then they both can be more effective.

Let them compete. Fine with me. Should be that way every camp. Every position should always be open for competition. It just seems to me that some just want to hand the starting job to MB3.
I notice the MB3 guys immediately don't want to aknowledge that his longest run was 28 yds. That is why you keep hearing this 20 yds + figure. Notice they do not use 30 yd +.

Is the point of the game to see which team can get the most runs over 20 or 30 yards? It isnt? Damn, you must have missed the memo.

Not to waste time with you, just mentioning the fact that MB3 has never had a run longer then 28 yds.

The reason it is brought up is Jones is suppose to be this break away guy eating up yards with his speed but he can't break a tackle to save his life and does not seem to hit the hole or bounce it outside. Barber runs behind the same line and does more with his ability than Jones has. 1 long run every blue moon is not going to cut. I do agree let them compete I don’t think the starter role should be handed to Barber nor should it just be given to Jones.

Open competition sounds good. would be interesting to watch.

ok, so we're in agreement. It's ok to support a player you like, and there's nothing wrong with you saying that Julius is better.

It's just that the Julius supporters can't give the job to Jones, and the Barber supporters can't give the job to Barber without having the competition.
