I'm guessing this is in 3D. There seemed to be a bunch of things coming out at the viewer.

The toy clown scene in the original really creeped me out for a long time. That was a distinct movie memory from my childhood that's stayed with me. Kind of disappointing to see the director just replay so many of the same notes from the original, but I guess it's mainly for the kids.

The movie industry has severely degraded the "3-d coming at you effect".

There is an article somewhere where it states the effect has been reduced by something like 70%?
Rendering it not the 3d from back in the day.
