VACAVILLE, Calif. - A pit bull escapes a "ruff" situation after being found stuck inside a pickup truck engine on Tuesday.

It happened in the city of Vacaville, about 30 miles west of Sacramento.
The truck's owner said he made the discovery when he went add some power steering fluid to his vehicle. Walter Witthoeft popped the hood and said he saw a pair of eyes staring back at him.

He realized a pit bull had somehow found his way into the truck's engine compartment.

The pooch growled and Witthoeft went and called police. He said the officers who arrived couldn't believe what they were seeing either.
The dog had shredded the engine compartment, in an apparent attempt to chew his way out of his situation. Witthoeft said the pooch had bitten through the wires, vacuum hoses as well as gas lines. He said he suspects the dog got into the engine sometime Monday night and stayed there until the hood was popped.

The dog was safely removed and the truck was taken to the shop.

And believe me, red meat and bones are way cheaper than gasoline these days.

Both are great looking dogs. I just put down my 15.5 yo a couple nights ago (not a pit) and am considering getting another Red Nosed Brindle. After all, I only have two dogs presently and neither are Pits. That's just not right.

Anyway, something about this story though makes me suspicious, you know, like things may not have played out just as the article would would have us (or the cops) believe. The guy just happened to be adding fluid to his truck and lo and behold he discovers a dog...rrrriiightt. I'm not so sure I swaller it.

Who knows if it is legit. I have seen some very strange things when it comes to dogs.

Had a white and brindle pit named damien one time. Beautiful dog, looked like petey from the little rascals, just without the ring around the eye.

Anyways I took him out to do his business one day and he pooed out a ketchup packet from Rax. It was whole...not punctured. Strangest thing is we never ate at rax because it used to make me sick. So the whole time we had him we never had been to rax. Still don't know where he found that ketchup. :laugh2:

I bet he was after the catalytic converter? I hear those things are big $$$ on the blackmarket these days.

My story really isn't funny. But when my dad was little him and my grandpa and my dad's uncle were cutting down a tree and they had their dachshund (He was a very fat dog) out their with them and as the tree was falling the dog walked under it and was hit right in the middle of the back. They thought he had died or been seriously injured. When they found out he was still alive they rushed him to the vet, and the dog was badly bruised but after a few days he was up walking around and playing again. They couldn't believe how that dog survived having the tree fall on him.
