It's the offseason and a slow time of year leading up to the draft but at least we have the upcoming draft to get the conversation going. I thought it might be interesting to review some of the more popular thread topics and maybe create some new thoughts to give us some original new material.
Based on my recollection here seem to be some of the more beat to death threads on this forum, but not necessaarily in order of frequency or importance:
1. Dez. This one covers a lot of ground. Dez sucks. Dez drops. Dez is too expensive. Dez is a head case. Cut Dez. Vs. Dez is our hero, nothing is Dez fault. Dez is a beast. Dez is passionate. Dez is beasting. It's all on Dak. If Dez leaves there will be monuments built nationwide for the great things Dez will do if he goes to another team. Dez is a pinup poster for some fans. They love them some Dez and if it's Dez vs. the Cowboys they pick Dez.
2. Jerry and the front office. This one also gets a lot of play. Jerry sucks. They will be glad when Jerry kicks the bucket. The Cowboys can do nothing right. Vs. The Cowboys have been doing a good job of righting the ship we just need to stay the course. Things are getting better and better.
3. Witten. See Dez but a lighter version. Should he stay or should he go?
4. Defense. This one is a common theme. Will we ever draft a defense? When are we going to give it proper attention? Vs. we have spent picks on defense they just haven't all worked out. See also: Oh my gosh we need a linebacker or three.
5. Anti Cowboys. This is a delightful topic that is near and dear to us that we all know and love. Everything the Cowboys do is wrong and you know it because this is the Cowboys we are talking about. Let's hate on everything the Cowboys do. Yes let's even hate on the mistakes they haven't even made yet. Give them time they will mess that up too. Vs. We love the Cowboys and although everything isn't perfect we see progress.
6. The Clapper. Ah yes, old Red Ball. Very polarizing is the Clapper. He can't do anything right, vs. give him a chance, he is doing good things and all Rome's problems can't be solved in a day. Honorable mention: It's the Clapping that really gets us going/hating on Red Ball.
7. Sean Lee. Hall of Famer vs Hall of Famer but we need to cut him out of spite because he can't stay healthy.
8. Jaylon. Love the pick vs hate the pick. Jaylons nerve has been debated almost as much as who assasinated JFK to what is happening in Area 51. Jaylon will be great vs Jaylon will be the biggest bust in the history of mankind.
9. The draft: Who will we take? Who should we take? Who is the idiot who said that guy was great? We need to draft only defense. Can we draft Dez' replacement? Do we really need all first rounders on the OLine?
10. Optimism. Optimism is wrong. You are such blind homers. Vs. Why you gotta be so negative all the time?
As you can see, when you start breaking it down, most of the threads started here are a variance of one of these ten topics. Im all for discussing any and all of them, but when some posters complain about the same topics being posted over and over the point generally is tied to one of these topics.
I am thankful to be a part of this board and appreaciate all the discussion we have here even though some of you are always wrong. Lol. J/k. Sort of. But in all seriousness this would be a pretty boring place if we didn't have spirited discussion.
Feel free to add in any that I missed. Maybe this will also open up some interesting discussion going forward.
I will also add that I think it is pretty interesting how I can almost predict how certain posters are going to align on their positions every time and what they are going to say before they say it. I know when I see certain posters I'm probably not going to agree with anything they say and others I will generally see things the same way.
The cool part of all of this is seeing a shift over time on the board's general concensus on a player.
I also often wonder if this board were drafting for the Cowboys how successful the franchise would be. It seems like when we have a board concensus on a player, good or bad, more often than not the board as a collective is right more often than wrong.
