Portis says he practiced this week, just like he did last week

Commanders | Once again Portis and Gibbs differ on his injury status

Howard Bryant, of the Washington Post, reports for the second consecutive week, Washington Commanders RB Clinton Portis (shoulder) and head coach Joe Gibbs have a difference of opinion regarding Portis' playing status. "He didn't practice, so we'll probably downgrade him," Gibbs said Friday, Sept. 15. "It's really just because of soreness. We haven't been able to get the soreness out. It's actually in a different spot in his shoulder. I think it's an issue where he's got some soreness that lingered and kept him from practicing this week, so we'll downgrade him." After practice, Portis expressed surprise when informed that he could be kept out of the team's Week 2 game. "I can't do anything but tell you to wait until Sunday. This bag is going to Dallas," Portis said. "We've seen some miracle days happen. This isn't a situation for me not to be playing." Portis said he felt that the Commanders coaches assumed he felt worse physically than last week.

See here is the thing, if Gibbs lists him as out he cannot play. If he lists him as doubtful, then there is always the possibility that he can activate him if needed. I don't think he will play, but if they really need him, he can. Gibbs already said the other backs are going to be the ones who are playing as well as said he hopes portis comes back next week. It really doesn't make sense to try and bluff since the Cowboys will game plan for Portis. If he is not in, then that is just a bonus for them. I don't know why people think coaches play mind games with each other. You prepare for everything reguardles what the other coach says. Otherwise you won't be coaching very long.

I think he will play. Here in Houston last week, they were talking about Gibbs and Portis and how they are dangerously close to getting fined and whatnot because of how Gibbs plays around with hiding info.

I think he will come in active and see 15 carries or so.

Joe Gibbs NEVER said 'Portis is out'. What he said is that 'players that don't practice, don't play.' Portis practiced.

That being said, nothing will surprise me on Sunday.

Fined, my butt. Portis is doubtful. That means there is a 25% chance he will play. He was questionable last week, 50/50.

I dont really know know where sports illustrated got there official "portis is out" saying from. If portis is still listed as doubtful/questionable/or probable, he will play. Im just a little confused right now how half the people are reporting that he will be "out" for the game, while the other half is reporting that he is doubtful

Stems from Gibbs saying Portis didnt practice, and a player who doesnt practice doesnt play.

As well as Gibbs saying "we hope to have him back NEXT week"

No way snyder and Cruise will go play the Cowboys and not play Portis.
And no way Saunders will either.
