I'll be posting a bunch of these to get some discussion going about the prospects that may or may not be available to us in the 1st few rounds. I'll start with DT since it seems to be a hot point of discussion right now...Feel free to post your info and videos on guys I don't mention. I'm sure I'll leave out some peoples favorites.

Taven Bryan (Florida)- This kid is a pure freak show at 6'3 290 with crazy natural strength plus a very surprising amount of athleticism. Watch for him to blow up the combine. Despite his ideal size and traits he never really put up great production in college. Sometimes struggles with technique and awareness. Will overshoot gaps at times and leave running lanes. Needs work on his game but the combo of his size and athleticism makes his potential extremely enticing. You'll see JJ Watt comparisons in the links below which are over the top imo, but I think he will show himself as a special athlete.
My Player Comparison: Henry Melton
http://bleacherreport.com/articles/...the-florida-dl-drawing-comparisons-to-jj-watt (good article about him and his background)

Da'Ron Payne (Alabama)- Really good mix of power and quickness. Big (310 lbs) and strong enough to play 1 tech but would also be a pass rush threat. Can shoot gaps and shows a great swim move. Again, another guy who you'd like to see more college production from. Also doesn't have the length you'd like to see, but that's really nitpicking because he's not short either. I see a guy with a low floor who should be a really solid player, especially against the run, but how high of a ceiling teams see will determine how early he goes.
My Player Comparison: Timmy Jerningan

Vita Vea (Washington)- Gigantic human being with surprising athleticism. Routinely bullied Pac-12 o lineman, consistently able to push his way into the backfield. Shows good short area quickness and will be a guy who commands consistent double teams. I have questions about his technique, he often stands straight up off the snap. Also have questions of how much of his college production from being able to overwhelm pac-12 o lineman when left 1 on 1. But there's no doubt that Vea is a rare human being able to move the way he does at 330+ and will be a handful for any and all o lineman if he's ever left single blocked.
My Player Comparison: Damon Harrison

Christian Wilkins (Clemson)- Athletic pass rusher with ideal size at 6'4 310. Quick burst that can get in the backfield with suddenness. Uses his hands well and knows how to get skinny to fight through gaps. Fluid athlete that can change direction and pursue QB's and RB's. He's really a very complete player, the biggest knock against him is consistently. Can go quiet for long stretches, needs to fight off blocks with high effort more consistently. His pass rush ability plus the ability to anchor against the run give him the skill set to be an every down starter at DT.
My Player Comparison: Kawaan Short

Tim Settle (Va Tech)- Another giant (330+ lbs) that shouldn't be nearly as athletic as he is. Can shoot off the line and overwhelm blockers quickly. Big and strong enough to put o lineman on skates regularly, will require double teams. As with most guys his size he struggles with consistent effort and pad level. Only a redshirt sophomore so will need further development.
My Player Comparison: Linval Joseph

Harrison Phillips (Stanford)- Not the sexiest pick as he's not huge or overly athletic. But what he lacks there he brings double in effort. Former high level wrestler who plays with great leverage and strength, hard to move. Fights off blocks, as evidence by his staggering 100 tackles this year from the DT spot. Lack of length and a great combine will push him down the draft but he's the type of guy every team needs fighting in the trenches.
My Player Comparison: Kyle Williams

Maurice Hurst (Michigan)- Quick gap shooter who gets in the backfield a lot. Good athlete with change of direction ability, really good on stunts. Might have position flex at SDE as well. Will overwhelm bigger slower o line with his quick 1st step. Lacks size and length at 6'2 285...and quite frankly for that size he's really not the type of freak athlete you would expect with his current draft hype. I see an overrated prospect, am I wrong here??
My Player Comparison: Tyrone Crawford

I like Maurice Hurst,Michigan....a fat belly people eater who can also pressure the QB.

if he is there at 19...I hope we take him.

Hurst? Fat belly people eater? He weights less than 290. He’s a quick 3 tech only

fat belly just a general term.
I think he's the best interior lineman in the draft...but he does eat people...watch the tape.

Payne impressed the hell out of me against Georgia in the champ. game. And I just finished watching 3 games of Vea and dang is that dude strong. Throwing people around like crazy. He needs some refinement but either one of those 2 guys would make a big difference.

The Cowboys can't go wrong taking anyone of those DTs but Hurst is my last choice as far as a first rounder goes.
I wouldn't use a first on Settle but would trade up in the 2nd for him. This guy is a pocket collapser from hell.

I could see Wilkins interesting them because of the position flex to play both 1 and 3 tech much like they did with McClain. Bryan and Hurst would indicate that the rumors of the wanting to move on from Irving might have some merit. Still can't see with the their history they would be interested in Payne or Vea, they don't value the 1tech and view it as a 2 down player!

agree.
Wilkins would also be a solid choice at 19.
I like this DT group top to bottom...there are some potential good'ns here beyond just Rd 1.
°Dashawn Hand,Alabama
°Derrick Nnadi,Fsu
°DreMont Jones,Ohio St
are 3 Im interested in.

he is impressive...be interesting to watch this play-out leading upto the draft.
The thing with Bryan is, whatever team drafts him are going to have to have patience with him as he develops. Bryan is pretty raw with technique and IQ...but once he puts it all together he will be a beast. And I believe he will put it all together just from the fact of how he's been raised.
If any team has the patience its the Cowboys...But is that patience worth a 1st round pick? I say 1st round because I don't think he will be on the board with our pick in the 2nd.

If possible I would take Vea in the first and not look back unless Wilkens falls to us. I like Payne and Bryan but early second round. Maybe a weird trade down to get more picks if Payne and Bryan are the options.... Still believe defense wins championships and will not change.
